Reading Lone Wolf and Cub
So a few years ago I became aware of Lone Wolf and Cub (not sure how, but I did). So slowly I begun collection the books. It took me a few years to complete it, but I finally I did.
I started reading it about a week ago, and I totally love it. It is VERY different than anything I have read. The pacing and layouts are totally different than anything I have seen. Also, so much of the story is told with out words, just with images. But the artist is able to convey so much emotion and "story" in the way it is drawn. It is a book that totally draws in the reader. Each book is also like 50 something pages. Each book is it own stand alone story bit also part of the larger plot.
Each story also has a Aesop Fables quality. And the endings have so much closure and so much "wanting more"....
I'm at issue #20 so I still have a long way to go, which I am stoked about.
This series is staring to creep up on my top series of all time.

I had the Dark Horse run of the small pocket trades of Lone Wolf and I never could get into reading them in that small book format. They released those in the fat small 4 inch books for some reason. The "First Comics" Lone Wolf runs are probably better to enjoy reading them in regular comic size. When Dark Horse reprinted the "Akira" run, they went oversized for that collection.

I would not enjoy them as much in a smaller format. So much of the story is told with just pictures. The art would be too small.

Good for you, Elveen! Lone Wolf & Cub is, perhaps, the greatest "realistic" Samurai manga ever made (Vagabond and Blade of the Immortal
are close seconds to me).
I dunno if it's your cup of tea, but Rurouni Kenshin (known in the US as Samurai X), altough way more cartoony and "funny" is my favourite historical-samurai comic.

LW&C is one of my all-time favorites. I've collected 1-11, 20, 28 of the small 4 inch books, and I gotta say, all the details are there, it's not too small. Least, I like em. anyway, I absolutely love each story, and how realistic it is. Itto is one of my favorite badasses. Collecting the rest seems like it will be a pricey adventure though, but im looking forward to it. Whats your favorite story so far?

Re: Reading Lone Wolf and Cub
Lone Wolf has always been one of my favourites. I first collected the First comics series. But that only has maybe a third of the entire story. I got used to the little books and they do look nice on my shelf. Would not be surprised though if Dark Horse ever does an omnibus version of the series.
