Valiant Story....Or Confession?
I don't have all that interesting story of coming to Valiant. I just remembered picking them up every so often if I had some extra allowance money after picking up the Superman books back in the day (aka the 90's).
Recently, I came across a 50 cent bin FULL of them at a junk shop and grabbed the box. Getting home I flipped through, finding a couple of gems like Rai #0 and Solar #1, and a couple of other books that weren't really RARE, but neat.
I got to the bottom of the box and I saw them.
The books that introduced me to Valiant.
The entire series in it's entirity.
And here's my confession.
My first Valiant comics? The ones that introduced me to these characters and concepts?
Deathmate.
There. I said it. So, what's my penance?

No penance, unless you think Deathmate is the best thing Valiant put out.
If that's the case... we'd like to suggest you follow Rob Liefeld's Twitter feed instead of visiting this website.

Re: Valiant Story....Or Confession?
Going back a rereading it now? The half that Valiant did (Prolouge, Blue and Yellow) still hold up pretty well. The Image half? Well....Black is pretty to look at but that's about it. And I tell myself that Red is some kind of secret Free Association excercize, Morrison at his most drugged out makes more sense than that book.

That's like saying you came to love Led Zeppelin when you first heard "In Through The Out Door". Not their legendary stuff but there's no shame in it. The point is you found it and that's all that matters.

Eh. Solar caught my attention. Cool look, cool concept (I always loved how his powers were visualized). And I found the concept of how H.A.R.D. Corps powers worked really interesting. And I was curious about this Sting guy...and Harada...and the Geoff...and Ivar and Armstrong....and Darque...and Eclipse....Daniel Jackson wrote:Welcome to the board.

Yeah, I was curious about the Valiant stuff, the Image stuff...not so much. (I DID end up picking up Wild C.A.T.S. later on, when Alan Moore started playing with it.

It was a short one, but he did it. I remember seeing a trade paperback of it years ago. (If you get the chance, check out Joe Kelly's run. That was brilliant.)grendeljd wrote:huh - I didn't know Alan Moore did a run on that book... I'll have to check that out! Oh, there all great. But "In" doesn't quite stack up to "IV".myron wrote:I kinda liked In Through The Out Door...jmatt wrote:That's like saying you came to love Led Zeppelin when you first heard "In Through The Out Door". My son, an avid drummer, loves Fool in The Rain because he thinks the drumming is awesome; but he's not a fan of anything else they did. So it's weird when we stumble across that song on the radio and he gets excited. Me, I'm more of a Four Sticks guy.
