I'm honestly stunned to see this. I mean the second prints aren't even out yet, how can there be a demand for a third?!
So I guess that's six total covers for X-O #1.

Yeah, it seems so far the innovation has been limited to the two QR variants. I don't count the pullbox variants, because in reality its just a variant. They aren't exclusive to pullboxes, even though they should be. It was a nice idea, but it isn't being used correctly.tchalla8 wrote:the ol' sketch cover routine. But, the stories are solid... so that's kind of innovative. I'm sure not seeing that in Spider-man.

Re: X-O #1 goes to third print
This is what confuses me, it's not selling out around here. My comic shop still has tons of X-O #1 (both versions), but I've heard it might be a regional thing. There doesn't seem to be too much demand on eBay. From a quick search of completed auctions I haven't seen many of the regular X-O #1s sell and there were many listed below cover price. I'd say that even the X-O #1 1:50 is dropping, but most of the recent ones are BIN with low selling prices and the one auction was for a miscut copy for $30.zoso20 wrote:wow a 3rd print.......the orders for the second must have been skyhigh.............and i know that the shops that ordered big for the first run still have issues......I think this demand must come from all the other shops that orderd few to none.......
I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't see where the demand for a second, let alone a third, print is coming from. Also, hopefully someone more familiar with the business can answer this, how is it that a third print is already announced before the second print has even hit the shelves? I'm just confused on how there could be a demand for a third print when the second hasn't even started to sell. I'm thinking that if I'm a retailer, I'm not going to want to order too many third prints if I don't even know if I'm going to sell any second prints yet.
Maybe Valiant needs to start doing a 1:20 incentive on the reprints...

If the demand is really there, then yes... this is great for them (and us, if we want them to stay in businesstchalla8 wrote:OK, in all seriousness....this is a good thing, right?

The problem with ebay for the regular edition is the postage cost.etos45 wrote:This is what confuses me, it's not selling out around here. Then you certainly haven't been reading Amazing Spider-Man the last several years. It's one of the best books on the market.

Hey, don't give them any ideas. They are already approaching Zoom Suit numbers on the different covers.etos45 wrote:This is what confuses me, it's not selling out around here. If the second print has sold out at the distributor level and there is alot more orders from retailers after they went to print on the second printing, then a third print would be warranted.
It will be interesting to see if #1 2nd print even shows up on the ICV2 numbers for June. It better show up with a decent number or something isn't right here.

Actually I have, but I am about a year behind. It just hasn't been good for me since Brand New Day started. It's gotten better, but it's nowhere as good for me as it was prior.400yrs wrote:etos45 wrote: But, the stories are solid... so that's kind of innovative. I'm sure not seeing that in Spider-man.

Re: X-O #1 goes to third print
Okay, I see. I assumed they printed reprints to the number ordered, but if it works that way then it makes more sense. I wasn't thinking that the second print would have a very big print run, that's why I was so shocked by a third. I'm not even sure my LCS is going to order either one.400yrs wrote:Hey, don't give them any ideas. They are already approaching Zoom Suit numbers on the different covers.

I predict this 3rd printing is going to be pretty scarce. Maybe only hit certain regions.etos45 wrote:Okay, I see. Wow, never imagined a third printing. It's neat that the title is in that much of a demand.

I thought second print runs were a couple thousand units. When "Dawn of the Jedi" #0 & #1 sold out, the 2nd prints were 3,400....then the third prints were 4,000.

My shop still has a s-load of the 2 months worth of Valiants.

Most of the shops here didn't order butt loads and they are sold out from the shelves. They aren't really the kinds of shops to order second prints though, so we'll see if they show up on shelves here this week.
I'm thinking the shops that ordered buttloads, still have a bunch, but it's the shops that ordered a handful that have put in for re-orders.

Re: X-O #1 goes to third print
I know my other 2 local shops are finicky when ordering on some niche titles. They order right down to the exact subscribers they have. They might benefit on the extra printings if the 1st prints are really sold out at Diamond.400yrs wrote:vikingspawn wrote:I thought second print runs were a couple thousand units. My other regular shop will order any extra prints for the new covers even if they have alot left of the firsts. I must have seen 15 printing versions of Image's "Fatale" #1-4 in the passed 2 months there.

Re: X-O #1 goes to third print
A few things here:
1) if I wanted XO#1 and it wasn't at my local shop(s), I would never even think to look on eBay. So I don't think you can use that as a basis for anything except the real collectible issues.
2) no matter what any individuals might think about a second or third printing based on what is going on in their shops, Valiant wouldn't be going back to print if they couldn't sell the books to retailers. Period. They are running a business. My guess is the speed at which they needed to go to second print led them to just print a set number. When that number was exceeded by orders, it's on to printing 3.
3) a second print, let alone a third, is amazing publicity and a huge success for XO, VEI, and the future Valiant books.
4) sure these new covers may not be "innovative" but what do you really want to see? Chromium? ok for sentimental value. Same for Gold logo or Blacked out covers...but in the end it's the print run that determines value for a collectible. It could be the worst cover in the world, but if only 800 get printed, people will want it. If you don't like it aesthetically, no one is holding a gun to your head.
5) I love the gatefold second print and hope I can find it in one of the three shops around me. I could go either way with the third printing cover, but at that point I doubt Valiant would commission a new cover, so I am cool with it and will get it if I can.
