If Aric did'nt learn to speak English until after he wore the armor around Ken, then how did he understand what the Map Giver (Elvis) was telling him to do in the beggining of the story from X-O #0?

the Map Giver was speaking Aric's native tongue (it was in English for the sake of the comic reader). if i remember correctly, Aric was surprised he could communicate with him and Map Giver said he picked up the language by being in the slave pens for so long.
