Rai #3 NM- centered copy SOLD!

Post by Brother J »

For sale is a well centered copy of Rai #3, I would grade this a NM-, no flaws to speak of. (I did later spot a very small corner crease near the bottom). The white on the Valiant logo appears to be discolored a little, but it is not a stain, not sure what would have caused it. Here are large front and back cover scans:

How about $20 plus shipping?

After looking at the super huge scan (which I can't reduce for some reason, even though I have already re-sized it in Photobucket), I do see a very small corner crease, so I guess I'll have to downgrade this from NM+ to NM-. Also, lower the price to $20 plus shipping.

That's just "rubbing" on the logo, ink from the book above it when they were stacked. It may clean off with wonder bread, might not.

I find a simple pencil eraser can remove a good deal of grey rub, the newer the easier.

Is that an actual cleaning tip or just a new saying the kids are fond of these days? The wonder bread comment, I mean.

Be careful with the eraser, far more can be removed than the grey rub and it can look obvious that it was cleaned.

Nope I mean it. Don't rub very hard.

Sure, white areas only unless like in the UK, you come across large numbers in crayon over one third of the cover centre, then you can make it look better, even with a little colour loss when rubbing too hard as you say

I often clear up older looking books gently if lower grades just for a tad extra sheen, though over time learned to be gentle.
We also suffer greatly from stickers, 60's upwards to even late 90's and that sucks big time.
Removed a 23p sticker from a Hulk # 181 a month back, sure that added £100, lol.

This is what Ive done in the past as well. Yes, be careful but it can do wonders for the look of the cover! :thumb:

It's been done to help clean older books for quite some time. I cannot take ownership of the technique.

Can someone explain what the well centered copy means for RAI #3? Is it the logo?

Sorry for high jacking your thread op.

Good luck on the sale. :)

Is wonder breading a book considered restoration?

Pressing, I can see how that's not because it's not really detectable, but I'd think there'd have to be a way to test if a book was rubbed down with wonder bread. :?
