Contacting Dark Horse about the Gold Key line

Post by jbtheo »

Okay, so I don't usually do this, because I know my voice alone isn't enough, but maybe a combined effort would work. I sent a message to Dark Horse saying the following:

"I am very sad to hear the news that the Gold Key revival issues are being cancelled. I truly did enjoy them while they lasted. I am very disappointed though that Jim Shooter's vision of Doctor Solar's origin will not be completed. I am writing to urge you to consider publishing the remainder of at least this Doctor Solar origin story in your pages of Dark Horse Presents. I feel Jim Shooter and crew were just gaining steam on these books, and it would be nice to have a final send off for the line in those pages. I don't know the circumstances behind the cancellations, but hopefully the contract between you and Classic Media would allow for this to happen.

Thanks for giving the Gold Key characters another, however brief, chance. I look forward to the next adventures."

Maybe if we all contact Dark Horse, we can request that they continue to at least publish some of the Gold Key adventures in Dark Horse Presents. Then we can at least get, for instance, a complete Doctor Solar origin story. It's wishful thinking I know, but you never know unless you try.

If you decide to send them a comment, you can go here: http://www.darkhorse.com/Help/Contact/

I doubt it will work. As to Solar, my understanding was that it would either be released monthly (so-called) and that would be the end of the line or that it would find publication in the collected edition DH announced a while back. Did they officially say it would end up remaining unfinished?

I've sent my message, too.

I was disappointed (to say the least) in the recent cancellation of the characters announced from the line. I know that investing more into this failed venture may not be in any best interest, but if you could see so kind as to finish the stories somehow through your line - reprints, TPB, etc. I know that many kids would feel obliged to support and buy. Thanks for the attempt at wrangling back a man who'd abandoned comics in the nineties. I'd just turned in a comics pull list (my first one in eighteen years). My daughters are just starting to enjoy my old comics, and loved getting back into it on FCBD 2011. (Free? Heck. I dropped $40 - but willingly this year!)

If it doesn't work, at least I've said my peace.

and if you do just stop the line could you do an "end book" with all the covers and any unfinished meterial. please dont just do nothing and stop in mind motion allow us to get ther rest of the work that is left over. one end book for all titles or one end book for each title. with what ever stuff you have kicking around.

I am sorry it did not work out for you guys we tried to support the line at every turn and god what a huge disapointment. take care chris and hope to hear back from you. Thanks for everything

Hi Jason,

The books are going on hiatus, Hiatus may refer to: Recess (break); Hiatus, a small difference in pitch between two musical tones

but are not gone for good. Of the current titles, Dr. Solar will run through issue #8, and Magnus, Turok, and Samson will each run through #4, finishing off story arcs and with all the material slated to be collected in trade-paperback form. Stay tuned for future announcements.

Thanks for your support!

Chris

Hiatus sounds cool. Maybe they are following the same release style as the Star Wars line after they had cancelled their major books (Kotor & Legacy) last year. Their titles like Knight Errant, Invasion & Old Republic run in 5-6 issues arcs then alternate and come back 5 months later.

At least it's good to hear that Turok will make it to 4. Now who's drawing it? :hm:
