Doctor Solar Origin Story For Dark Horse
The Doctor Solar Origin Story For Dark Horse runs in Doctor Solar #5-8. Shooter has said he believes it's his best story ever. JC Vaugn said it's the best script he's ever read.
If there's even a chance it's as good or better than Valiant Solar I don't see how any Solar fan could take the chance to not at least pick up the first installment and check it out.

That's great, but JC Vaughn has only read like 2 comic issues. I'm just kidding.StarBrand wrote:The Doctor Solar Origin Story For Dark Horse runs in Doctor Solar #5-8. Shooter has said he believes it's his best story ever. JC Vaugn said it's the best script he's ever read.

The people that are dropping this title will probably give Solar a second chance starting with issue 5.

Sounds like they are trying to sell copies. There's more to a comic than just the script anyway.StarBrand wrote:The Doctor Solar Origin Story For Dark Horse runs in Doctor Solar #5-8. Shooter has said he believes it's his best story ever. JC Vaugn said it's the best script he's ever read.

Re: Doctor Solar Origin Story For Dark Horse
Just for the record, I offered by observation on the Solar #0 script before I was involved with Mighty Samson and stand by remarks. In my position with The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, I've been given the opportunity to review lots of scripts. I can't think of one better.400yrs wrote:Sounds like they are trying to sell copies. If you want to quibble with my judgment, I urge you to do so. That's a big part of the fun around here. However, if you want to question my motives, I'd just as soon have you get to know me a bit better first.

Eh. Whatever. Let's see if it ends up being the best comic you've ever read and then I'll be impressed.JCVaughn wrote:Just for the record, I offered by observation on the Solar #0 script before I was involved with Mighty Samson and stand by remarks. I don't know the timelines of when that script was done or when you read it or got involved with the DK books. As someone who is involved with the DK books, I'd hope that you are trying to sell copies.

Certainly but the importance of other factors drop dramatically for me after the script. To each their own, however.400yrs wrote:Sounds like they are trying to sell copies. According to this CBR interview with Shooter, he wrote a 40 page #0 issue story.

It was originally 32 pages, but being serialized I think that Jim would probably have added a few to what I read or at least modified it slightly for the chapter breaks...Ryan wrote:It will be hard to top Alpha & Omega, especially around here.
I'm curious what the page count will be. You wouldn't think the back-ups would be more than 8 pages... x 4 issues = 32 pages. Guess that would be about right for a '0' issue. Hey JC do you remember what the page count was?
And by the way, I always thought Solar #0-10 was about the best science I'd ever read in a superhero comic. Until this.
I'm really going to be interested to see it drawn.

Thanks guys. I wonder if the back-ups will take away from the page count of the main story or if it will be an added bonus?JCVaughn wrote:It was originally 32 pages, but being serialized I think that Jim would probably have added a few to what I read or at least modified it slightly for the chapter breaks...

It's being drawn by a European artist Agustin Alessio? Looks like he has a lot of different styles, hopefully he is fully painting it

Here's a few samples from his flickr, possible NSFW

Respectfully, I do not think it will be anyone's intention to top Alpha & Omega or Rai #0 because these are not Valiant books. I do agree that around 'here', those two books will never be topped as these are foundation books which ground why many of us are here to begin with.yardstick wrote:No. It will be hard to top Rai 0...Ryan wrote:It will be hard to top Alpha & Omega, especially around here.
...
The first time around with Valiant... heh, I admit, I was beside myself and I read those for the first time back in 2003 (+/-). But that was another universe. This is GK stories and I have to keep reminding myself of that as well. I won't be one to compare anything new with Alpha & Omega or Rai #0. Those books stand on their own and in high regard. The new Solar story is simply 'that'... a new story, a new universe totally separate from Valiant. I can't compare them, no way, no how. Those early days of Valiant, I do not think will ever be topped (IMO)... it was a kind of magic.
I do however, think that the new stories stand on their own and I look forward to this origin issue, very much.

And, if they're that good, I feel the whole line getting a bump.comicsyte95 wrote:If the new Solar origin issues are even 1 tenth as good as Alpha & Omega or Rai #0 itll be way better then anything Marvel or DC is putting out (even though im enjoying Green Lantern now)now. If they are that good i can feel the hoarding instinct taking over.

Maybe, but it would help if the titles were solidly tied into each other like we had with Valiant.StarBrand wrote:And, if they're that good, I feel the whole line getting a bump.comicsyte95 wrote:If the new Solar origin issues are even 1 tenth as good as Alpha & Omega or Rai #0 itll be way better then anything Marvel or DC is putting out (even though im enjoying Green Lantern now)now. If they are that good i can feel the hoarding instinct taking over.
How long was it after Valiant was launched before the titles tied into each other?Daniel Jackson wrote:Maybe, but it would help if the titles were solidly tied into each other like we had with Valiant.StarBrand wrote:And, if they're that good, I feel the whole line getting a bump.comicsyte95 wrote:If the new Solar origin issues are even 1 tenth as good as Alpha & Omega or Rai #0 itll be way better then anything Marvel or DC is putting out (even though im enjoying Green Lantern now)now. If they are that good i can feel the hoarding instinct taking over.
