Ok just read it, IMO best Dr. Solar issue yet.

Out of the 3 books, Solar has been my least favorite so far. The art hasn't been great and the Pickerel storyline hasn't been the most interesting. I thought the best parts of 1 and 2 were the parts about Solar's personal life (Gail, job, how he got his powers).

This issue does a much better job of balancing the personal life stuff with the battles and it's starting to all tie together. Some interesting questions were raised about where these Pickerel creations are coming from and more intrigue about who's responsible for Solar gaining his powers (I'm betting Nuro was involved

)

While I like Roger Robinson much better than Calero, I was a little disappointed in the art. It seems a little rushed at times and chunky. He really excels at the superhero action stuff though, and the storytelling is solid so I wouldn't say it takes away from the story.

Looking forward to the conclusion of 'Troublemaker' in issue 4, and the beginning of the origin in #5

I found this much better than the other issues.

I think this was a bad choice of initial storyline (combined with the art problems in #1). The problem is the main group of antagonists are inherently one-note caricatures by concept. It's very hard to do any real character development or interaction with them. Worse yet when the plot is also keeping Solar away from most normal people (he pretty much hasn't met Gail yet, and he was just revealed to be alive this issue.)

Nice review!! Moloch is twisted!!! Raping Susan and wanting to eat children!! Thats definately worth noteing! Very, very, very sure there will be a crossover event! There are five titles! Dr. Solar, Magnus, Turok, Samson, and Dr. Spektor and DH does not plan on stopping there.

BTW, I actually emailed Jim Shooter about the "Jonesy" chick in Magnus #2. Here was my email with Jim's response...lol:

Jonesy was named after Al Capp's "Stupefyin' Jones" and was modeled after Julie Newmar, who played Stupefyin' Jones on Broadway. Julie Newmar, in her prime, was stupefyin' indeed.

I just read the first issue of the new Turok series last night and I have to give you major props for the authentic portrayal of native american culture in this story

I really enjoyed how Turok and Andar have the slight lack of communication in the beginning of the issue, and are aware of each other's dialects and where they are from based on that. My best friend Jacques is an Apache and he has told me of his experience as a crown dancer, and how each region of the U.S. has it's own drum beat pattern. He can listen to a song and immediately tell if it is "North," "Plains," "South," "Mountain," etc.

Also, I have to ask you about a character in Magnus #2...the woman Jonesy

Was she named after me? This is probably my fan-boy ego asking...lol...but I thought it fun to ask

Thanks again for an awesome duo of comics and I can't wait to see more connections between the books reveal themselves as time goes on

Some items i've noticed so far:

- Phil Solar's son had a very "native" appearance in Solar #2...could he be related to Turok somehow?
- The "storm" in Turok #1 seemed pretty similar to the storm in Solar #2
