Much, much better art. Is it Barry Windsor-Smith level? No. But it actually tells the story clearly and competently. Which is a huuuuge improvement over issue 1.

The story is classic Shooter. Even though the plot is cliche (writer's characters coming to life) the characters all react in realistic and unpredictable ways. Makes for a fun read and 22 pages felt much too short.

Leviathon and Glow remind me a lot of the characters in 'Til Death do us Part. I like them a lot more this issue.

I completely agree. The story was classic Shooter and I enjoyed it.

I just finished issue 2. It was awesome. Moloch is going to be one badass *SQUEE*!

I get the feeling that we haven't seen the end of Leviathan and Glow. :)

Reminds me of Wardancer, where I thought the first issue was just decent and the second issue blew me away. It was an awesome read. It's basically Solar meets Til Death Do Us Part so far with all the quirkiness and intrigue you'd expect. And the visual storytelling is now clear and looks great. I now look forward to this book every month without reservation. I can't wait to see if Solar gets "smited" by Moloch. LOL

Honestly,I wasn't all that impressed.

I know what you guys are talking about as far as the art telling the story-that was much better, but the art itself I didn't think was very good. A few times Solar's rib cages were so whacked they made Jim Starlin's take seem decent.

I was also surprised that Gail and that bad guy from issue #1 were totally missing.

What gives?

I still enjoyed it, but I'm hoping to really be inspired soon.

I chalk some of the art issues to the quick change of artists, so this guy didn't have the time, the writing was a little clunky again, clunkier, even.

Solar's line of, "Oh my goodness I hate to fight" or whatever?

I liked that he made fun of Whitmore's writing with Lev-baby saying "Flork"! Pretty funny!

The 5 page preview as well as the comments here were enough for me to pull #4 from my pre-order this month. Saving $2 is better than reading bad 60s comics.

I finally got my copy last night. I really enjoyed it too, alot more involving than the 1st issue. I do really like where this is going. The art is much better, Solar's dialogue is better than last time (although still a tad off at times).

I do have a slight problem with the colouring, when Solar is in costume he seems kind of flat or behind images/further away than he should be. Probably just my freaky eyes.

Nice one on getting your letter printed Starbrand... you were sucking up like a pro!

I though number 2 was a good read, I like the direction Shooter is going, and will continue buying for the foreseeable future.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I first read the Valiant Solar first 10 issues all at once as I did not start buying when they were first published. Honestly, I dod not know if I would have been as impressed if I had bought issues 1 & 2 as they came out. The first 10 issues, with Alpha and Omega, were epic and are a much better read all at once.

I hope this will be the case with Magnus and Solar, the sum is greater than the parts.

Dead on describes Shooter stories in general. That is why they are so good.

I know I'm really in the minority on this, but I actually really liked Dennis Calero's art. I liked the cold, clean slickness of it as opposed to the rougher art of issue 2. As far as the story goes, though, I'm really digging it!

Agreed, I like the art with Calero better although was not too impressed with it either. I just read this yesterday and I must say: I'm into it! Excited to see where it's headed, hopefully it unfolds in Vintage Shooter Fashion! I'm sure it will...

just picked it up. Story wise, decent, nothing that gets me that excited about the book yet, but still of some interest. Between these books and Shooter's Legion run which also didn't particularly grab me, I have to wonder if Shooter's work has changed or just my taste in comic books. The art is improved, but still not that good, IMO. Looking at the other books out there at the LCS, again, I have to wonder if the art in current comics just doesn't appeal to me or if it is all really that bad. Interesting to have a letters page, even though I would have to say that it seems like DH made sure they picked only the most positive letters to print. With as many negative comments as there were about Calero's art in issue #1, there was not one negative mention of it in the letter column. I'll stick with it for now, but these books aren't exactly inspiring me to rush out to my LCS the week they come out. :|

This issue was a little better than the first, but nothing is really captivating me so far. I think Jim needs to step things up if this series is going to grab a large enough audience for the long haul. So far things are moving along pretty slowly and the artwork isn't helping much.

I can't imagine newer fans being that impressed this series, but it's still early enough to change things around. Hopefully given time, Jim will piece things together and create a successful relaunch of this character.
