prices on valiant back issues

Post by damien308 »

it's kind of depressing to see how low some of them have gotten . i remember back in high school the back issues value were pretty damn high. i really beleive they should be priced higher. these are great books. there is still great interest in them , and obviously from comments on the board over the years people have expressed interest in a succesful re launch .

im glad i held onto my books. i wont sell them . there are still some key issues im trying to get. i hope this dark horse run does well.

On the bright side, it's a great time to buy if you're trying to complete your collection.

I must agree. For someone like myself who happened across Valiant, decided to collect a reading set, and doesn't have very much money to put towards comics, it's been awesome being able to enjoy these stories as an adult, when I never could have afforded them as a kid.

The process of getting these books, reading them, discussing them on this forum...it's been a hell of a year!!!

yeah you guys are right , great time to buy. i was so happy when i found this website. great to know people are still passionate about these books. looking at them always takes me back to my high school days. i beleive the prices will go back at some point .

im just trying to figure out at what point to stop buying . i never picked up anyhting released by the acclaim . i will say that i still bought the valiant books after shooter left . but about 6 months later i began to lose interest . it just wasnt the same anymore. since there really cheap i may pick up a bunch and give em a shot .

also quick question , this new dark horse stuff . is it a whole new start or is it in the valiant timeline . havent had time to read em yet

The Darkhorse Stuff is completely separate from the valiant Stuff, its a spin off of the original Gold Key line from the 1960's.
I would expect Magnus and turok to pretty much seem the same though, solar a little [or alot] less cause it's not Phil Seleski from the valiant universe.

VEI never owned Solar, Magnus and Turok, they own all the other ones, and from what I hear they are working on their relaunch as well.

i know people , including myself are complaining about the artwork on the dark horse stuff . but i remember even back then when valiant was hot . i too hated the artwork on some of the titles . but said to myself whats all the hype about . i gave it a shot and loved the stories . normally i would never buy anyhting unless i liked the artwork.

i did however love bws art . i wonder what hes up to these days
i still have the rune issues

its pretty funny how i will always remember that week. the whole new comic section was well stocked with the superman issue . it was like geez ? how many did they buy ?

Personally, I always loved the early Valiant artwork, but I was never into the flashy stuff that Image was putting out. I just like well drawn clean artwork and a colorist who doesn't detract from it all. Jay Jay will always be one of my favorite colorists.

I always liked the early Valiant too, but I also liked the look of the stuff Image put out. It's strange how time changes thing though. I still like the look of the early Valiants, but not so much the Image stuff.

It was all hot poop.
I can understand someone seeing the hype going on and thinking 'wow thois sounds great', but once people had the comics in hand, you'd have thought they would be able to make a logical decision about buying anymore of that crap, but unfortunately not.

Is that what he is? :P

Great topic so far.

I liked early Valiant art, but didn't love it. I appreciate it far more now than I did back in the 90s

I was going through and reorganizing my pre-unity books this weekend and am sad to say I don't have nearly enough. I'd like to finish up my second raw set.

I was always a massive fan of David Lapham. Magnus 7 is close to my favorite Valiant cover all-time. It's simple, nothing going on in the background, but so much power in the drawing. Love it.
