I want to read early issues of Solar: Man of The Atom

Post by drmirage »

I have a question for you guys here.

I've been a Valiant reader since 94 and its such a shame that I haven't even read any issues of Solar before issue #10 and I have been wanting to get a copy of Solar #1 to Solar #9 just for reading. I know its an awesome story with pencils by BWS and written by Mr Shooter.

A few years back, I was able to purchase the Valiant Era Collection that included Solar #9 and #10. Now, since I already have the Harbinger, Rai, A&A, XO TPB's so next I thought I'd get myself the Solar TPB.

So last week, I ordered Alpha and Omega TPB and I was surprised that it only included the parts of Solar #0 because I thought this book contained Solar issues #1 to #10. Argh!! I guess it was something that I have overlooked.

Now I want to get issues Solar #1 to #9, but it costs $$ to get the individual issues. I think its gonna run atleast $50 to get this on eBay.

So my question is this. Did Valiant ever published any of the earlier issues of Solar in a TPB.

Its still very pricey to purchase the early issues, so I am wondering if there are others in the same boat as me.

Thanks so much.

Look for the Solar - Second Death TPB. It contains Solar 1-4

Also Atomic Avenue has Solar 1-9 available and reasonably priced as well

If you are looking for reader copies, you can probably get a full run of Solar 1 - 10 for $30 shipped or so. Especially if you don't mind the #10 second print.

There are plenty of guys around here with spare copies lying around that would jump at selling the run for that price.

I've never heard of them are the books they sell in Mint condition or are they considered reader copies.

Chiclo,

I wouldn't mind paying that much for NM copies. I've been looking around everywhere. That's a deal I haven't seen anywhere.

Perhap's I am not as diligent as you. :D

I think he was referring to reader, not nm copies. We generally consider "reader" copies to be vf and below. Mostly below. You could luck out with a couple nm's in a reader set, but most likely not

Yes, I believe those are Reader Copies.. VF or worse.

I think I can find a "SECOND DEATH" TPB in NM for around $12 which has SOLAR #1-#4 then buy 5-9 on eBay for around $20.

The Big C's(Chiclo's) internet deal-on-comics kung fu is legendary around these parts. Of course, with a little patience and digging, 30 dollars is about what you should be able to find a run for. I got mine for a little under 40, I think.

Atomic Avenue is an outlet for Internet sellers. It's similar to Ebay so there's no definite answer to your question. Some folks will have NM books while others will have reader copies.

Exactly. I use them a lot and depending on the seller, the condition has either been spot-on or better, or exactly as advertised.

I haven't had any bad experiences buying at Atomic Avenue, but then I've never been looking for CGC-9.8 quality books

$12 for a Second Death TPB is a good deal in my book, if it is VF/NM or better. I would want $20-$25 for my NM copy. This has been one of those rare instances where it is usually cheaper to get the original issues than the TPB.

The same with the Magnus and Q&W TPBs. Individual issues will be cheaper. and the Mag v. Pred (obv.)

drmirage,

As a noob to Valiant myself, I can understand the reservation of paying top dollar for some of the books. But, I an assure you of two things:

1) You will not find a better collection of fine individuals who will help you get the books you need than ValiantFans.com! :)

2) Buy the reader copies...not only will you then have the chance to read the earlier books at a slightly cheaper rate, but sometimes you will get lucky :) The guys on this site have suprised me many times with throwing in either an extra book, or one in awesome condition that I wasn't expecting :) Granted, don't "expect" more than what you pay for, but the unexpected gifts can be awesome!!!

3) Paying a little more for the "Pre-Unity" books such as Solar 1-10 is absolutely worth every penny! These books are the cream of the Valiant crop and to have these books in your hand is so awesome!!!

Good luck in your search drmirage!

BTW, I have an extra copy of Solar #9 that I will send to you free of charge, if you want it?

That is a very good idea! Buy them then read them, then post about it too in the re-reading section!

It's win win win...I guess it's made of win?
