Sean Chen first comic art?
I'm a Sean Chen fan and I was wondering what was his first comic art that he did?

Barry inked over Sean. You can see a scan of the orginal art atBrother J wrote:Using Greg's handy dandy artist index, it looks like Chen's earliest work was a cover for Solar #19, which is also credited to Barry Windsor-Smith. It looks like Sean's first full work was on Rai (and the Future Force) #9.

Sean Chen came on here to chat one night. Stayed for a very long time. Don't remember much about it except the two questions he did answer of mine that, yes, that Solar cover was his first published work and that he'd actually left Rai because he felt like he had done enough issues (He made it sound like Orstrander didn't plan on leaving the book when he left. Of course the next issue of Rai after that would be Orstrander's last)

Sean Chen has the DEFINITIVE Takao Rai - I don't care who drew him first (Rai #0?) but this...Todd Luck wrote:Sean Chen came on here to chat one night. Stayed for a very long time. Good to hear that you folks take an interest in my output. I joined Valiant soon after Shooter left, so I didn't know if you diehard fans of the company would consider any of my four years there worthy of your attention. That's the main reason I never cared to visit these boards over the years. Much to my surprise, I do feel quite welcomed here.
Just a few plugs on some upcoming projects since this thread conveniently brought up the topic. X-Men: The End is finally done with issue #18 that just hit the stands. After that, I have a few covers for Marvel Adventures coming out. My new series with Marvel will be a Spiderman story featuring Venom that will probably be released with the 3rd Spidey movie. Way before that, my studiomates and I are releasing our second sketchbook called theBLVD 2.0. which features an eclectic mix of art from ex Valianters Bernard Chang and Tommy Lee Edwards, as well as John Paul Leon and Trevor Goring. Right now I am working on some insert pages for Marvel's Civil War Correspondence #4.
And of course, you all have been great in supporting my moonlighting (along with Svair) as a toy producer with the Valiant Penguin statue series (Shadoman is near completion) and the upcoming Solar 1/7 scale full figure statue.
Upcoming Conventions include: Charlotte NC, San Diego (Sketchbook will Debut here), Toronto in September, and possibly Baltimore.
Hope to see or meet you at an upcoming con!

Are you kidding? Even when Valiant was going down the crapper, your art still rocked and was worth picking the books up forSean Chen wrote:Good to hear that you folks take an interest in my output. Cool! Sean Chen and Bernard Chang both read and post on the boards! Hey, guys, thanks for all the great Valiant artwork. Unfortunately, I don't follow comics now, so I don't know what you've done since, but I think you two are some of the best artists Valiant ever had (and they had some good ones).
Didn't Sean Chen do some Harbinger issues, too--the new team--after the Rai issues? Those are good, too. If I've goofed, sorry--I'm just speaking from memory, and I haven't looked at my Valiants in over a year.
I also enjoyed Bernard Chang's work on Dr. Mirage. Classic stuff.
Man, I miss Valiant. Those were, and still are, my favorite comics ever.
