Hey, I wonder if any of us have "winning" books? Might make a great board contest if we could come up with prizes.Daniel Jackson wrote:That would be sad.JonesyAZ wrote:Makes ya wonder if the person who won it probably was someone who didn't even care about the books; like a half-@$$ed collector that probably threw 'em all away later...

I believe it was going to be a drawing, from all the different serial numbers that were inserted into that month's books, and the grand prize was a complete set of VALIANT comics produced up to that time, including all the variants and giveaways.dhudson1 wrote:I forget, and I am too lazy to look, how did the contest work and what was the prize(s)?
Someone can correct me if I am mistaken.

That’s about right—it was for whatever the whole universe was at the time. . The numbers were printed in the Aug and Sept ’93 books. Somehow the winning numbers were generated by a computer and the winning list appeared in the Nov ’93 issues.
I thought I remembered there being a Grand Prize Winner but I looked through my early ’94 X-Os and didn’t see anything more about the contest.

This is where the passing of Seaborn is all the sadder.sanman wrote:That’s about right—it was for whatever the whole universe was at the time. . Man, are they ever disappointed now....dhudson1 wrote:Was probably bagged and never opened, someone hoping to pay for their collegedellamorte wrote:it's a good bet that no one ever claimed the big prize. With so many books being printed at the time it would be easy for the winning number to slip through the cracks.

They may be able to sell them and buy lunch, off the dollar menu.Daniel Jackson wrote:Man, are they ever disappointed now....dhudson1 wrote:Was probably bagged and never opened, someone hoping to pay for their collegedellamorte wrote:it's a good bet that no one ever claimed the big prize. Probably a lot. I know I've bought lotto tickets in the past and never bothered to check them.xodacia81 wrote:I wonder how many contests have had that ending...dave wrote:Or maybe they never even realized they won.JonesyAZ wrote:Makes ya wonder if the person who won it probably was someone who didn't even care about the books; like a half-@$$ed collector that probably threw 'em all away later...

At the time I was reading most of the Valiant books and I remember buying the ones that I didn’t read hoping that I’d win the prize…

…but no golden ticket.
I did the same with the Valiant Era II cards and actually had two sets because of the sendaway cards. The funny thing is that I never bothered with the actual set—guess I gought caught in the hype.
I did have a complete Era I set with all of the chase cards. I lost those but replaced them about a year ago—still one of my favorite sets next to the first Marvel Universe.

Good luck with that. Aren't they selling off backstock on eBay for overblown prices?Daniel Jackson wrote:Hoping that maybe VEI will honor them....IanAlexavier wrote:On the books that Ive torn apart to bind, Ive pulled out the serial number inserts to double check them against the winning numbers... ya never know![]()
