Auspicious Timing - Video Interview with Jim Shooter at CBR

Post by Dr. Solar »

This was recorded at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Maybe they haven't gotten the memo yet about the lawsuit:

Aside from the bullspit going on right now ........ I am very much looking forward to Jim getting a hold of the GK characters again. He seems quite excited.

Thanks :thumb:

I enjoyed the part where Jim talked about his favorite is Magnus because the future is basically good.

Some interesting things from the video... particularly the timing of the deal between Dark Horse and Classic Media. Jim said that Dark Horse got the rights "just this week." And the quote "A handshake with Mike Richardson is better than a contract with anybody else" is interesting in light of the events as described by VEI's lawsuit.

Great interview, though.

Jim didn't look like he was in the best of health in that video. His face had a lot of red blotches on it.

every picture I've ever seen of him looks like he has horrible acne...which is just an observation, not a knock on the man...

They were filming outside, so maybe that just makes things look more noticeable. After reading what Jay Jay said about him being sick, I just wondered if maybe he had some ongoing problems.

How can anyone not get excited when watching Jim Shooter get excited about characters that he loves?

I think it's Richardson's office.

You can see artwork of the Mask, Batman vs Predator, Sin City, H.R. Giger/Aliens, Flaming Carrot....

What's interesting about this interview is Jim says something to the effect that he had a lot of ideas from back in the Valiant days that he never got to implement and he would love to dig them up. Could Valiant claim ideas in his 'head' as "intellectual property"?? Obviously it's a stretch, but if years down the road when Dark Horse has established Magnus or Turok or Solar in a new universe and Jim says "I had this idea in my head back in the Valiant days", could VEI come back and sue and say, that idea is Valiant property??

Opens up a whole nother can of worms

I don't think so, that's a stretch.

I see that in this interview Jim validated the time frame that was described in the lawsuit and also verified that the rights to the characters for new stories were available.

Also in the lawsuit it says he resigned on the 16th and was in SD for the announcement on the 25th (I was there).

Should be interesting at the least.
