My Story
Hi everyone, first post.
Back in 1992 I came across Valiant comics for the first time at one of the several comic stores (there are no longer several comic stores) in my City (which is Sydney).
The title was Harbinger and I thought I'd give it a shot. They had the first 4 issues so I picked up all four. Loved the fact they were written by Jim Shooter so I figured they'd be a decent read. Took them home and read them .... Addicted!
Went back to the store and picked up every issue of Solar they had, not sure about X-O but I know I started from the first issue. I'm pretty sure X-O one had been released at that time.
Ended up buying every title Valiant released, all except for Magnus which for whatever reason at the time didn't interest me. I only picked that book up when it was part of the Unity crossover series.
I stopped collecting Valiant titles in April or May 1993. This was because I was going overseas to the USA and wanted some more spending money. I took my collection to a comic store in Sydney and sold the lot. I got around 40% of the Wizard price on the books. Which at that time the Valiant titles were commanding big money.
I remember the comic shop dudes excitement at some of the books, Rai O! Harbinger 1 OMG man! LOL. Anway, the collection was gone.
Years later a friend of mine at work gave their comic collection to me. The collection contained a near complete run of most Valiant titles (excluding Magnus LOL), books included Shadowman, Rai, Harbinger, Solar, X-O, Archer and Armstrong, the Unity Saga etc. Needless to say I was happy to have most of the books back in my comic collection.
I ended up picking up most of the Valiant books I was interested in getting at a comic store for 50cents each. Pretty much took each book up to Chaos Effect, which seemed like a decent point to stop the collection. And I only did this for a few books; XO, Solar and Shadowman.
My wife bought for me the Solar - Alpha and Omega hardcover for Christmas last year, which is perhaps one of my favourite books. And a highlight of the whole Valiant era for me.

Hi, bought my first Valiant comic from a store called Comics and Cards in Bathurst Street. Mainly shopped at Kings, but Comics and Cards had all the Valiant back issues. This was also right before the price skyrocketed for the comics.Phantom. wrote:Which comic shop?
I worked at the Phantom Zone. We didn't have a shop in central sydney, but we had 5 in the surrounding towns.
I used to work at Parramatta, then was the weekend manager at Chatswood.
Bought my recent issues from Comic Kingdom in Liverpool Street.
Have been to the Phantom Zone at Parramatta a few times and Chatswood, but that was years ago now.
