Just read the X-O/Solar "Seed of Destruction" stor
I have to say that I really enjoyed this crossover, "Seed of Destruction" in the early X-O and Solar books. What really moved me about this story-arc was that I really felt sorry for the Spider Aliens. I know they are a race that has done a lot of damage for the Valiant universe, but given the fact that they wanted Shanhara's seed to create a spaceship to go home, and that Solar destroyed them all...it just made me feel really bad...hahahaha.
Has anyone else felt that way, or were you pretty happy with the Spider-Aliens getting their butts handed to them?
Man, if Valiant's stories keep being as good as this and the early Harbinger run, i'm definitely going to be a fan for life!

What happens a few years down the line however may not

luckily though the quality of the first few years worth will stave away your desire to sell it all upon completion of reading and you will live happily ever after.

Sounds like you're new to the Valiant Universe--welcome.JonesyAZ wrote:Man, if Valiant's stories keep being as good as this and the early Harbinger run, i'm definitely going to be a fan for life!

I think tracking down a Unity set (as well as the rest of the PreUnity books) will be a real treat for you. The early Valiant runs helped cement my weekly enthusiasm for comics as a teen.

I agree with everyone else about pre-Unity and Unity. Some of the best comics ever. By anyone.
In X-O, when they killed Shanhara (they went for sensationalism rather than story), alas, they started a downward spiral that got worse and worse, through killing off their best supporting characters (on a title that desperately needed supporting characters), to the X-O bike, to the Dallas dream-like ending, with some great art by Bart Sears and others but *SQUEE*-poor stories. It was a very unfortunate ending to what otherwise had been a fantastic comic.

Totally agree with that.bamaphilosopher wrote:

Looking back it's hard to believe how fast Valiant managed to unravel just about every good thing Shooter accomplished. Sometimes I think Layton and Massarski just went out their way to do things just the opposite of what Jim would have done.
And that’s why I don’t own a complete run on any title. Most of my runs end around the serial number contest.Daniel Jackson wrote:Totally agree with that.bamaphilosopher wrote:

Today, however, I was in a LCS that I don’t frequent very often with several VH1 era books a 25 cent bin. Most of which had the later Acclaim V logo.
I plan to go back Wednesday with my check list. Any great finds would have been bought today, but I didn't have that much time to look.

The later books are pretty bad, I can't blame someone for not being interested in collecting them. But for a quarter a piece, it would be hard to pass that up.sanman wrote:And that’s why I don’t own a complete run on any title. That’s what I’m thinking too. I did see a Unity 0, Unity Lost Chapter, and Visitor 13 that will be fun to pick up at the very least. I wanted to grab them today but I didn’t have any cash or enough time to go an ATM. I’ll let you guys know how I do...Daniel Jackson wrote:The later books are pretty bad, I can't blame someone for not being interested in collecting them. They killed Shanhara? Aw, BUMMER!!! What issue did that happen in?bamaphilosopher wrote:I agree with everyone else about pre-Unity and Unity. Some of the best comics ever. By anyone.

Also, now that i've read the X-O "Retribution" trade paperback, I don't feel so bad for the Spider Aliens after all...lol.

#28. It's the one with a naked Aric on the cover with pieces of the armor scattered all over.JonesyAZ wrote:They killed Shanhara? Aw, BUMMER!!! What issue did that happen in?bamaphilosopher wrote:I agree with everyone else about pre-Unity and Unity. Some of the best comics ever. By anyone.

Went back to the shop Wednesday afternoon and I saw maybe 100 Valiant comics. Most of which were mid VH.1 issues but I bought 20 comics. I consecutively extended the following runs: Harbinger, X-O, HARD Corps, Magnus, and Solar.sanman wrote:That’s what I’m thinking too. Other than that, I picked up Unity #0, The Lost Unity Chapter, Turok #0, and Visitor #13. The ones I left behind would have been duplicates, in poor condition, or would have created big holes that I have no intention collecting. At 25 cents, though, I may pick up more at a later date. There were some later run Harbys that I probably should have picked up.
Oh, the shop I visited is called Magic Comics & Hobbies and is located at 727 Robert Blvd., Slidell, LA 70458. The phone number is 985-649-4171. If you are in the area it is a decent shop—the biggest Bronze Age selection I know of in the New Orleans metro area.
