I looked into this back when the movie came out...
here are the estimates based on Capital City Distribution records:
Watchmen #1 = 227,000 to 341,000
Watchmen #2 = 255,000 to 383,000
Watchmen #3 = 253,000 to 380,000
Watchmen #4 = 270,000 to 405,000
Watchmen #5 = 221,000 to 331,000
Watchmen #6 = 218,000 to 327,000
Watchmen #7 = 201,000 to 301,000
Watchmen #8 = 187,000 to 281,000
Watchmen #9 = 187,000 to 281,000
Watchmen #10 = 179,000 to 268,000
Watchmen #11 = 188,000 to 283,000
Watchmen #12 = 227,000 to 341,000
The lower side of the estimate is probably closer to accurate.
John Jackson Miller (of the Standard Catalog of Comic Books)
also thinks the lower number is the better guess,
possibly even a little lower.
I'd say 200,000 is a safe bet for #1.

Sales may have dropped off in the middle, as usual,BloodOfHeroes wrote:So help an ignoramus here. What would cause a publisher to increase the quantities so much from #11 to #12? Do last issues of maxi series sell similar quntities to 1st issues? If so, why?
but word of mouth could have caused people to check back in...
especially if they just wanted to know how it all ends.

Also there was a delay in publishing the last issue, giving people that opportunity to check it out after buzz would have built in the old-fashioned ways of print media and word of mouth.greg wrote:Sales may have dropped off in the middle, as usual,BloodOfHeroes wrote:So help an ignoramus here.
