San Jose Super Con Report
I am unloading my haul from Super Con in San Jose today, and figured I'd write up a report of the show as I go through my bounty.
Somehow, even though I say I don't want any more comics, I came home with about half a short box worth of stuff. Most of it fills holes in my runs, though, so it's all good.
The show itself seemed slower and smaller than in previous years. There weren't as many vendors, and not as many people attending. I think there were three rows of vendors total, and each of those was not that long of a row. I finished my first pass through the show in less than two hours.
There weren't a lot of Valiant books there. I saw no Valiant books on walls, which I had started to see a bit lately. No Key Valiant books to be seen, Harby 1's, Solar 10's, Magnus 12's, or Rai 3's.
I did find an A&A 0 gold and Eternal Warrior 1 gold flat for $4 each, that was the best Valiant find of the show. They are probably VF at best, so not an amazing find, but still pretty good! I needed the EW 1 gold flat, so that was a nice find. Found a few other pre-unity Solar books I picked up too.
I picked up a lot of random Green Lantern and X-Men books to finish off runs. Got a few silver age Green Lantern books, 8, 61, 63, and 72 to add to that collection.
I got a couple Iron Man 128's for $3 each, and picked up and Omega Men 3 for a couple bucks. I also got a spectacular copy of Captain America 332 with the awesome Zeck cover. It is definitely a 9.8 candidate. It was in a box of books that were all in amazing shape, a collection the dealer had just bought. The coolest books in the collection were a Primer 2 and Grendel 1. All incredibly high grade.
All in all it was a fun show. I met up with a couple friends from thecomicforums.com, and we went to Gordon Biersh afterwards for dinner and a beer. BTE and Zeph had talked about coming up for the show, but it didn't work out for either, it would have been fun to hang out with you guys, but the show wasn't that spectacular. Didn't miss much.
edit: I also picked up 7 Doctor Solar books between issues 3 and 15, and couple issues of Star Spangled War Stories from the late 50s in BBC (beat, but complete).

The guy who had them was asking graded prices for raw books. I think he wanted $600 for it.
It was in fantastic condition, a pretty good bet it was 9.8, but still waaaaay too much.
The only thing I bought from him was the Cap 332, it was the only book he gave me a *somewhat* reasonable price for. I was also looking at a Flaming Carrot #2 and a Saga of the Swamp Thing 20, but he wanted $50 and $60 for those, respectively.
