Free Comic Book Day--May 2nd
I wanted to get a thread going about Free Comic Book Day. I always love to hear people's impressions about the day, the offerings, how stores in your area handle the day, etc.
My shop, Joy's Japanimation in Greensburg, PA, does a 24-hour sale for the day. This is our fifth year doing the day-long sale, and it's an exhausting, but really fun time. We go all out and have sales on just about everything in the store to make it as big an event as possible.
The assistant manager of the local movie theater is a customer of mine, so this year I will be promoting FCBD at the theater by giving out the FCBD Wolverine comic at the midnight screening of the movie as well as the late Friday showing since we'll be open when the film is over.
I think this year's offerings are really strong. I'm glad that all 4 premiere publishers are all releasing new material in their books this year. Blackest Night #0 is far and away the most talked about title at the store. I've ordered very heavily on it, but I'm still wondering if I'm getting enough. Owly is also extremely popular for us every year, both with children and adults.
Well, that's mine. I'd love the hear what's happening in your area or even if you have any FCBD traditions.

I'm heading to Zach's shop in Iowa City saturday to do some back issue searching and talk with him (if he has time--I know it will be busy)

My LCS doesn't participate anymore, but there's a comic show in Lubbock that falls on FCBD and the shop there participates.
Hastings also participates. Last year, they were giving away back issues about a year old too. I picked up several pairs of Superpowers 0s (we were travelling and hit about 5 Hastingses).

I think I am. I graduated in 89.

I hit 36 this year and I'm dying trying to stay in a 36 waist pair of pants!
MY LCS is participating and my son's first Teeball season game is Saturday and I'm hoping the wife will let me take him to FCBD afterwards to celebrate.
I've already seen and read Blackest Night #0 but it didn't do anything for me because I haven't been following the story and I'm not relaly a GL fan.

All 4 of the LCS' which I frequent are participating (Cincinnati is notorious for being able to support comic/gaming shops - we have at least a dozen).
I'll only be going to one, though, as I have to stay there for most of the day in order to do a signing. They're having a lot of other artists and writers there too, so I expect it to be packed.

No purchase necessary.Brent wrote:Hastings does Free Comic Day? Do you have to make a purchase to get free comics?Chiclo wrote: Hastings also participates. You may have to look around and possibly ask the sales staff about it.
