Feeling a little... anxious
Well, I am almost to the point of selling off "my" VALIANTs, but taking a loss is tough! I still have multiple copies of pre-Unity Rai, but I paid close to FMV for them at the time, and now they are "worth" only about half of that.
Someone already wants my Harby #1, but I don't seem to have any luck selling the other issues separately so I was thinking of selling the set.....
-slym (wishes there were some hype driving the prices up like Deadpool and Gambit 1st appearances)

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

That is QUITE the generous offer... give it a while longer yet, but I may take you up on that!!!ckb wrote:Slym -
I will pay a fair wholesale price for your books and hold them until you want to buy them back from me (or not). No strings.
Send me a list.

Seven months without a job, and I'm running out of other things to sell... I hope it's quicker to come than DJ thinks!Doorman wrote:Honestly man ... if you can hold off on selling them it seems to me that there might be a massive Valiant revival on the horizon. And, if that happens, it'll be the hype you're looking for!

I'm not sure I have anything that is really worth slabbing - the "worthy" issues I have are all 9.6 or lower (and I can't get rid of the few 9.6's I have left as it is) and if I have any 9.8s, they are common issues that I probably wouldn't break even on. The couple of books I know are 9.8s, well, I didn't send them in to CGC in December for the reason stated above, although a couple of them would be golden if I could get a witnessed signature on. Then there's the problem of having enough disposable income to pay to have anything graded to begin with...IanAlexavier wrote:Just an idea for you, bro. What about trying to CGC some of your nicer books to make a profit?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but CGC needs a "consignment" submission, although that would involve them selling their own books That's an ethical no-no.

If you were concerned that you would only grab 9.6 status you could have them prescreened.

Im sorry to hear about your employment situation. Thats a drag

I'd send in your books with my next pre-screen and front you the fees until you could sell them. You just have to get them to me.slym2none wrote:I'm not sure I have anything that is really worth slabbing - the "worthy" issues I have are all 9.6 or lower (and I can't get rid of the few 9.6's I have left as it is) and if I have any 9.8s, they are common issues that I probably wouldn't break even on. I am planning on putting together another submission after the two-day Boston show at the beginning of April. I'm spending all my time right now preparing for that show. Sub should go in about the beginning of May.

Thanks for the kind words, Ian.
ckb, once again, a VERY generous offer, but the only ones I'm sure would be worth it would need to be "Signature Series" books, and I just remembered one of those was an Alex Toth cover. I think it will be REALLY difficult getting a sig from him now.
Now if I could just find BWS and Matt Wagner at the same place...
Maybe I should go through my stuff again, just to be sure, though.....

I wish you luck, Slym. I would not look forward to having to make those decisions. Although, I'm glad that the fringe benefit of our obsessions is that we have things to sell when times get tough.
Oh, and ckb is an amazing guy, and you can trust him with your books. He's taken care of my books twice, and there is no better bro to work with.

I actually went through my entire box of VALIANTs the other night, and found only 4 "possible" 9.8s, and when I took them out to closely inspect them, none would get better than a 9.6. I have lots of 9.6 candidates, but there is no "good" market for 9.6s right now. I can't even sell my few I have left over at the CGC boards or here. If I put them on eBay, I'll just be wasting my money on fees.IanAlexavier wrote:Just an idea for you, bro. What about trying to CGC some of your nicer books to make a profit?
