It's a shame the Dreamcast didn't fare better than it did. It was an awesome system and ahead of it's time.xodacia81 wrote:Dreamcast was a better system than Saturn. But, the trouble was the way Sega rushed them both to market and how they handled software and licensing-or lack thereof. Plus, in the case of Dreamcast, Sony had pretty much swallowed Sega's portion of the market.

Yes it was and it's a shame I was never able to afford one. I played a friend's DC quite a bit and it was a very cool system.Daniel Jackson wrote:It's a shame the Dreamcast didn't fare better than it did. The Saturn was a pretty great system too actually - especially if modded and you had access to the vast library of imported games - I really thought this system was much better than the original PlayStation when they were both out during my early college years - honestly Panzer Dragoon Saga is still on of my favorite games ever.
Dreamcast's demise was a product of poor marketing and a general lack of interest in the American market later in the game - again I thought the DC was much better than the PS1 and could compete with the early PS2 offerings - any thoughts?

The Dreamcast is still one my favorite system of all time. While the Saturn and the Dreamcast died here in the states,it was still keeping a$$ in Japan when games were still coming out in a monthly basis. The Dreamcast had some awesome imports shooters that can cost you and arm and leg.If I did not already own 6 import Saturn system I would have jump on the modded Saturn.

I think you made some good observations there. PDS is indeed an awesome game and if I could get my paws on a Saturn and that game, I'd probably play it every so often. As for Saturn being a better machine? I don't know. I'm not that technically inclined to give a proper statement, but I recall hearing the main complain being that the dual processing was a headache for programmers and resulted in slowdown. The Dreamcast was a cool system that just never got a real shot, imo. Comparable to early PS2 games? I'd say that is very true.Trenton Sy wrote:The Saturn was a pretty great system too actually - especially if modded and you had access to the vast library of imported games - I really thought this system was much better than the original PlayStation when they were both out during my early college years - honestly Panzer Dragoon Saga is still on of my favorite games ever.
