When you do, it may well be the most numb a comic has ever made you feel.Dr. Solar wrote:I've been reading this in the trades, so I am always 2-7 issues behind.
I like it though. Darn fine reading. The end of the last trade that came out made me pretty frustrated that I couldn't read the next one right away.
30 years of reading and nothing ever got to me like this story arc.
Nothing.

SPOILER!!!!
DON'T GET TOO ATTATCHED TO ANYONE!
Well, Tony Moore pulled an amazingly mean April's Fool. A full color cover of Walking Dead #60 on his website. Said he'd be doing a 6 issue arc.
It featured Carl, wearing Rick's hat and firing Rick's gun, but it was a teenage Carl.
2 days later .... APRILS FOOL!
I can't wait for the next 3 issues.
From what I see of issue 49 and 51, I will guess that Rick is now a Zombie. And it's confirmed the father and son from issue #1 (the first living people Rick meets after "waking up") will now be a part of the cast of characters. Poor Carl. And Machone (did I spell her name right? The chick the general raped and beat) should be sticking around.

Yeah, people seem to think that. However, Kirkman wrote somewhere (possibly in a foreword in the first trade.... can't remember), that the entire TWD series is about Rick and his journey throughout the zombie infested world. He made it sound like it will always be about Rick. He could always change his mind on that, but it would be a HUGE gamble on his part to kill Rick. Most readers who have been there since the beginning have become attached to Rick in a love/hate way. He really is the only character that Kirkman has really focused on. I'm not sure he'd throw that out the window. TWD is his best selling book. It's his biggest money maker. It just wouldn't make much sense taking such a gamble.adammikael wrote: From what I see of issue 49 and 51, I will guess that Rick is now a Zombie.
Also, the covers that he puts out on websites are sometimes not the cover they publish. The actual covers very rarely give away the content of the issue anyway. So those covers of Carl pulling around a zombie-looking Rick are probably just meant to throw readers off.
***********Spoilers**** I said in the other thread that he could kill off anyone except for Rick and Michonne and I'd be fine with it. That's damn near what he did through #48. The ONLY other character that I thought Kirkman MIGHT be able to write the book around was Hershel, but that ain't happening now. **********end spoiler
Really? What have you heard on that? Link?adammikael wrote:And it's confirmed the father and son from issue #1 (the first living people Rick meets after "waking up") will now be a part of the cast of characters.
Bringing them back seems kind of cheap...... unless they go back to Rick's old neighborhood for a reason. If they bump into them on the streets somewhere, that would be lame.
"Michonne".adammikael wrote:And Machone (did I spell her name right? The chick the general raped and beat) should be sticking around.

She is an awesome character that Kirkman really hasn't gotten into yet. She is my fav behind Rick.
Good to see another TWD fan on the board. Valiant fans usually have good taste in comics.

Have you tried Invincible yet? If not, try out the first trade. At first, it might feel like a rip-off of pretty much every super hero comic, but after a while, you realize that the simplicity (like character names) and clean story telling makes super hero comics fun again.
No one really seems to talk about it, but to me Kirkman really is creating the best characters out there. I think comic fans will look back several years down the line and really appreciate some of these characters / stories.
If you are looking for reader copies, I might have an extra #3 with a banged up corner. I don't have a high grade copy of #3 nor any copy of #2 myself.adammikael wrote:I am having a helluva time finding the issues.

Moore is a bad-*SQUEE*.adammikael wrote:I have all the trades (1-4 are signed by Moore) and I'm only missing issues 1, 2 and 3. And moore signed all the stuff I brought. His coveres are the best!

What are those stories about? Never heard of them. Are those Zombie books? I'm not too big on Zombie stuff - I just like TWD and Shaun of the Dead - that's about my range of zombie stuff.adammikael wrote:also, if you like reading WALKING DEAD, i suiggest reading WORLD WAR Z, DYING TO LIVE and DAY BY DAY ARMAGEDDON. They are all amazing books.

Yeah, Kirkman has stated that no one is safe except for Rick. And he's proven that over the last few issues.400yrs wrote:Yeah, people seem to think that. Maybe Rick and Carl will go back to his old neighborhood now and find Duane and Morgan. I'm sure Duane and Morgan went back and cleared out the police station of weapons and stuff. I suspect they will go back to Rick's old house. Remember, As far as we know Rick, Carl and Michonne are the only 3 that survived the prison raid and I doubt they'd go back to the city the General used to run. But Rick and Carl don't know that Michonne is still alive.
I can honestly see Kirkman taking Rick and Carl back to Rick's old house and then moving further north. Finding more survivors, etc. It's gonna get REAL good the next two story arcs.
There's going to be a second printing of #1 that comes out right around the time of #50, and it'll have a reprint of the IMAGE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL from a few years back. The Walking Dead story in the Special was about the Father and Son rick had met back in Issue #1. Kirkman said he'd be bringing them back. Check out the Wikipedia page on TWD and do a little bit of digging on his site's message board (i think that's where if ound it) and i believe on NEWSARAMA also.
#50's Variant is really cool too. Erik Larsen did it. Michonne and Rick and Tyrese are all dressed up like heroes and the Zombies and The General are villians.
I think the #50 regular cover is the one that shows Carl alone, surrounded by a crowd of Zombies. and #49 is the issue that depicts Carl walking with Rick through the woods, holding Rick's hand and Rick looks all covered in shadows and zombie-fied.
about the novels, WORLD WAR Z is amazing. it's a post-zombie-war account, written like the author is interviewing the survivors. The movie is in production right now. The audio book is great too.
Dying To Live is a quick read by Kim Paffenroth who wrote GOSPEL OF THE LIVING DEAD, a thoelogicial and sociological account of the impact Romero's movies have had on pop culture and how each movie deals with issues like racism, materialism and capitolism. DYING TO LIVE is similiar to TWD in that it uses some of the same plots (Hospitals, Prison, Museum, etc) and tells the story of survivors living in a stronghold they made out of a museum. It has some religious references in it but that's about all I can say w/o giving the story's plot away.
and DAY BY DAY ARMAGEDDON is just brilliant. It's written journal style form a survivors point of view. My only gripe is we never find out what our main character's name is, since it's written first person.
THE MORNING STAR STRAIN TRILOGY is also very good. Book 1 came out late 2007 and book 2 should be out by September. I got my advance copy yesterday and I can't wait to sink my teeth into it.
"The Morning Star Virus doesn't let go of it's victims so easily"
Excellent books. I highly recommend.
I really wanna get the pricey editons of TWD. Those look really cool.
And for those of you interested, TONY MOORE lives in Kansas City, Missouri and usually hits all the conventions and signings in and around KC.

thanks dude, i was just about to add that.Drift wrote:He actually said no one is safe, not even Rick but for a while at least it is Rick's story but over time it may change.
This was in the intro to the vol. 1 TPB.
NO ONE IS SAFE EVEN THOUGH IT STARTED OUT AS STORY ABOUT RIK.
The point there being, that if the story were to run in as a realistic manner as possible then no one character could be safe.
I like that idea very much.
After 30 years of Marvel etc and all that wasted continuity, i dont get attached to characters as much nowadays, so doing off with the main character and starting over may happen and i would welcome it if Kirkman feels thats the way the story is going.

Overlacpping characters and then loosing one is the best way to keep our attention. We're already attatched to Rick and have been since #1. I've grown fond of Carl's story and am VERY curious about Michonne.
And what about Maggie, andrea, sophia

After severing dales half eaten leg and such it would be a shame to not see how he fares and whether the disease has still spread, but maybe slower.
Also after they came back to save the day like that, they surely get to survive and let us see them actually eaten another day in more grizzly circumstances.
