Rank the early Valiant books.

Post by Big Red »

I'm a long time comics reader, but lost interest temporarily during my college years (Early 90's), hence I missed out on the Valiant Universe.

I'm now realizing what I missed.

I've gotten most of the issues of X-O & Eternal Warrior (Haven't read them all yet). I have Archer & Armstrong #'s 7-12. A pretty good run of Bloodshot. Three or four scattered issues of Shadowman. And I just bought the tpb of Solar this past weekend on ebay.

What else should I get?

You could help me out by ranking your favorite books from the following list:

X-O
Solar
Eternal Warrior
Archer & Armstrong
Bloodshot
Shadowman
Magnus
Harbinger
Rai
The H.A.R.D. Corps

Which were your favorites? Least Favorites?

Your rankings will help me determine what to get next.

Thanks. :thumb:

Rule of thumb........buy and read ALL the preunity/unity books. All the titles were good for at least one or two more issues after unity and several were good for even more.

These are my favorite preunity titles in order with the best reading of each if memory is accurate.

Solar 1-18
A&A 1-12
Magnus 0-20
Rai 1-8
Unity 0-1
Eternal Warrior 1-8
Harbinger 0-14
Shadowman 1-14
XO 1-15

Good postunity titles as well.

Bloodshot 1-3
HardCorps 1-4

Some early issues of Turok were very good as well but can't remember the issues #'s. :?

You are asking the wrong question if you are asking which titles are best, because ALL of the titles take a nosedive in quality as they progress.

If you want to know what titles stay pretty good throughout, that is a different question.

If you want to know which runs within each title are the best, then Zeph and Myron are approximately correct, though I would put Eternal Warrior 6 and 7 pretty high up in the list myself:

Try to grab runs of the books on eBay... it will save you time and cash.

Im an X-O fan. But any of the early books are fun.. and if you can, try to read them in order up through Unity :thumb: There is a reading list somewhere here on the site...some one should link that in a short time ;)

I think it is better to read by title, then stop periodically, then read another title. But really, I like to read it from start to finish.

The only time when I consider "the reading order list", is when the stories crossover. Unity (obviously), the is a early Solar XO corssover story arc (XO #13 and Solar #17, I am going from memory here), and there is a Shadowman XO story crossover also. I during the Malev war it might be better to switch off form Rai and magnus.

Just my opinion. :D

I've got my own reading order, too, but really, once you go 6 months beyond Unity, it doesn't really matter :thumb:

I guess I would just add that you can't go wrong with any Pre-Unity issues.
