Don't you hate it.....
Don't you hate it when you go into a LCS, you search for that diamond in the rough (a cool Valiant/Acclaim book), and after some seraching..... you find one.
Only to find that the owner has is overpriced. and will not come down.
That happened to me yesterday, we went to my niece's socer tournament, and, there just happened to be a LCS down the block from where the game was. So I wrangled myself away to check it out. After a bunch of looking, I found a pretty sweet Magnus #8 w.coup. & card. But it was priced out of my range. I hate that.
I am able to get myself away...... actually find something I want..... but, nada.

I feel your pain.
My wife stopped at a shop the other day when she was out of town and called me to ask what books to look for. I told her some titles and numbers and of the ones they actually had, all of them were ridiculously overpriced. I just told her to forget about it and get out of there.
What's even worse is she said the condition of the books were not in the greatest shape either....

That is the reason I left my LCS for a different shop. Every back issue was cover price or higher, and they wouldnt negotiate on the price. I talked with a couple other LCS owners who said that that guy doesnt even discount other dealers.
I just dont get that.
plus they charge a yearly members fee for 10% off! what a joke, i'm glad im done giving them money.

Yep, saw a Magnus 64 this weekend. Pretty banged up for $30. I didn't even bother asking, cuz I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it in that condition.Elveen wrote:Don't you hate it when you go into a LCS, you search for that diamond in the rough (a cool Valiant/Acclaim book), and after some seraching..... you find one.

I don't understand...truly....how these dealers stay in business. Guess they weren't around during the Crash.
I've always maintained that if you want the crazy prices, put them on eBay for a 99 cent starting bid, or whatever, and see where the market takes you. If you get $20 for that beat up copy, more power to you....but that was because the buyer CHOSE to pay that price, not because you gouged them for it.

There's an LCS near me that has the VVSS X-O #0, but it's priced at $30 and the owner won't budge on the price. I said my top offer was $20, but he won't move. Of course, it's been sitting in the longbox for about four years now, you'd think he'd eventually sell and make SOME money off it instead of letting it sit.

Are you talking about the X-O Database VVSS book? There is no X-O #0 VVSS.Darth Kramer wrote:There's an LCS near me that has the VVSS X-O #0, but it's priced at $30 and the owner won't budge on the price. You can be sure they would point out all of the flaws in anything you wanted to sell to them.
Yes, that sucks too. I have only seen one guy lower his prices because of condition.
One time I asked this girl (after she looked up the prices in the Overstreet) "Is that the NM price?"
"That is the price I am selling for."

One of my LCS owners has a great philosophy on this. You take what it cost to pay for your floorspace, and divide by how many boxes you have. Then, you figure you pay a certain amount per box, per month, and after 4-5 years, most dealers have potentially lost money on the books. Better to just blow them out and replace them with something that potentially won't stay there another 4-5 years.Darth Kramer wrote:There's an LCS near me that has the VVSS X-O #0, but it's priced at $30 and the owner won't budge on the price. Even if you bought the comics in bulk, paid $20 per box, and then paid for bags and boards (about $20-30 per long box at wholesale prices), then you have $40 in that box. But, if you let it sit there and not sell, over 4-5 years you could be paying as much as $150-300 in rent on that box. So, if you aren't turning that box over for cover price or better once every other year, you are likely losing money on it.

Sorry, I meant the Database. I think they're also got a Gold X-O #0 autographed by Joe Q. I get the two confused. I did get a Gold X-O 1/2 and hologram Silver Surfer 1/2 there for free, though, because the owner didn't know how much to charge for it.Brother J wrote:Are you talking about the X-O Database VVSS book? That's actually a pretty smart philosophy! I suppose that makes sense as to why a store in my wife's hometown has blowouts of $20 shortboxes of $1 books every couple months. Better to move the stock than let it sit!whovianone wrote:One of my LCS owners has a great philosophy on this. You take what it cost to pay for your floorspace, and divide by how many boxes you have. And the longer it sits, the more damaged the books become from people rummaging through them.Darth Kramer wrote:That's actually a pretty smart philosophy!
