MOTA will be devastated when he reads this quote, unofficial as it may be:
“We love all 600 of you,” (Jeff Gomez) finally admitted, but Valiant has to design something that hundreds of thousands, if not millions, can relate to, so any new comics will probably not pick up exactly where original storylines left off.

I just saw this, and am glad there is a thread here already to post about it on.
I hope Sean Chen would be a part of a new valiant line. All in all - if you take a look at what they said, we really don't have any more information now than we did before the convention.
So the bible is being worked on now and there are no definite plans for a new comics line? Will there be a new Valiant comics line, was asked. Gomez could only say, “If I were them, I’d sure hope so. Valiant heroes will return, but in what form, I cannot say. There are discussions going on right now.” The Valiant bible he is working on is based on the original version.
No clear answer on this one yet. Though the hesitation to say there will be a new comics line makes this less relevant at the moment.Asked about the status of the Gold Key characters? That is “a separate deal, and some efforts have been made,” Gomez said.
A statement that leaves room for optimism. When asked if future Valiant comics would jump ahead in time or pick up where they’d left off, Gomez laughed that he hadn’t “answered that to Valiant yet!”
A statement that should lead our more orthodox members to prepare themselves for the possibility things will not pick up where they left off.“We love all 600 of you,” he finally admitted, but Valiant has to design something that hundreds of thousands, if not millions, can relate to, so any new comics will probably not pick up exactly where original storylines left off.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for creating new stories.Asked about the status of the Gold Key characters? That is “a separate deal, and some efforts have been made,” Gomez said. The Gold Key characters are now owned by Classic Media, he informed everyone, and told the audience that Valiant submitted a request to increase efforts for Valiant and Classic Media to work together. He was unsure if that cooperation will ultimately involve only reprinting old material or creating new stories.

Yeah... It's kind of sad to think that they won't pick up where it ended, but at the same time, I could totally understand why they couldn't and it wouldn't effect me too much. As long as it's not a total relaunch (which it obviously isn't, with the HC) then I'm happy.Brother J wrote:Thanks for the link!![]()

I was interested in the part where they were talking about the Valiant Bible. I'd love to get my hands on that one.

Actually, we do have a little - we know that they are working on recoloring "Grackel" and "Armed & Dangerous", which could lead to speculation about new releases.Geomancer wrote:I just saw this, and am glad there is a thread here already to post about it on.

They are creating a Bible for new comics, so that implies that new comics are on the burner - but as VEI has yet to hire some of the staff they need for the creative side of things (look at the job openings on their site), one could reasonaly assume that they're still putting the core staff in place for potential new lines.

Good point.BloodOfHeroes wrote:(emphasis added)Artemis, who colored the new cover, which was inked by Bob Layton, also worked on the Harbinger hardcover and is working on a Valiant bible to assist with pitching Valiant properties to other media.
Right now, there does not seem to be any definite timetable for a new comics line, or consensus that there will actually be one.
To me, thats really disappointing. I think I will hold off on buying hardcovers until after a shipping date for a new comics line is set.

I'm glad they are doing this. I think that keeping what is essential about the characters-the concepts-is the key. Bringing in too much history to properties in a massive relaunch scenario is not a good idea. Now, do they need to obliterate everything? Nope. A reboot from just before Unity? Maybe. Start over from scratch but keep the basic premises the same? Could work. I'll reserve judgement til I see for myself

Christ, Greg. They weren't ever at the Con.
And Jeff's comments read like "Ifs" and "Maybes".
