LoEG Black Dossier

Post by Elveen »

Has anyone read this yet?

I was thinking about trying to get one off of the eaby. I really liked the first one, the second one was middle of the road for me.

Any thoughts?

Depends, IMO BD was mostly set-up for the next LoEG storyline.

I thought it was interesting. A lot more prose than I would normally like. I think that this serves as a jumping off point where Moore can write several LoEG series from many eras and have the requisite background knowledge out there. That way he can avoid wasting whole issues on exposition. It's a worthwhile read but not for those looking for a cohesive story.

It was supposed to, but tptb decided to save that for the forthcoming absolute edition. Further enraging Alan Moore, who will now be doing the next League books through Top Shelf, who did an excellent job with Lost Girls so I hope to expect that kind of quality.

Personally I thought it was an interesting exercise in how many different mediums that Moore and O'Neill could create a story involving the various leagues throughout history. The Black Dossier's origins were ostensibly as a sourcebook, but they went a little over board.

Tijuana Bible, 3-D section with glasses, a Shakespearean play all telling different tales of Leagues past, with goofy literary touches like Doublespeak.

All in all I really enjoyed it, and as I refuse on principle to buy Absolute Editions it was a worthwhile purchase.

A friend of mine gave this to me, but I haven't read it yet.

I hope it's good.
