"Malibu" was not a single universe.
At the end, Malibu had three major imprints, but they did not encompass the whole line. I know you are an Ultraverse collector, and the other two were Bravura and Genesis. Bravura had several very good titles, I especially recommend Breed I and II and Dreadstar. I am not as familiar with Genesis, but the cornerstone book was the Protectors and those were old golden age characters that might have been in the public domain. Malibu itself mostly grew by gobbling up smaller indy companies. I think it started out as Eternity and might have gone by Amazing at one point, but absorbed at least two other companies - Aircel and Wonder Color (I think it what Hobo said?). Malibu also licensed quite a few books, like Street Fighter, Star Trek DS9 and Mortal Kombat. Other books like Dead Clown really didn't fit anywhere in there at all. Malibu also printed the early Image books.
The last DU I fiddled with was Comics Greatest World, Dark Horse's attempt to jump into the super hero craze of the early 90s. Except for the Ghost issues, all the issues can be found cheaply and rather easily.

hmm
thanks for the info Chiclo,I should have been more specific on the Malibu part.
I will see if local LCS carry any of the Breed issue, which I doubt it ,they really don't carry to much on the DU stuff.

Next time I am at my storage unit, I'll see if I can dig any up.h-comics wrote:thanks for the info Chiclo,I should have been more specific on the Malibu part.I will see if local LCS carry any of the Breed issue, which I doubt it ,they really don't carry to much on the DU stuff.
There's Breed 1 - 6 and Breed II 1 - 6. There are Silver and Gold foil variants of Breed 1 and a gold embossed variant of Breed II 1 and a TPB collecting Breed 1 - 6.
I know I've got at least three spare Breed 1 Gold foils. Picked them up for a dollar a piece when I put together an order with madcapcomics on eBay (solid dude). I think I might be able to put together a spare run of Breed 1 - 6 and a chunk of Breed II.
You could probably pick them up on the 'Bay cheaply.

I'd have to agree with Chiclo, the CGW/DHH stuff from Dark Horse is excellent, cheap and, most importantly, darn good. It is also a-early on-integrated universe with a singular reason for existing which, alas, was never fully explained but you do get some good ideas. My favorite titles were X, Ghost, Motorhead and Barb Wire. No, NOT the film version of BW, but the REAL one which has NOTHING to do with the film. Beyond these titles, most of the major characters and supporting cast were enjoyable, particularly characters like Mecha, The Machine and King Tiger.

I strongly recommend the Crossgen universe as well. At the moment, this DU can be acquired rather cheaply given it's size and very low print runs. If these books ever become "hot" again, they will be very difficult to obtain at an affordable price (not that this is likely to occur).
I'm down 50 books from completing my collection of "Sigilverse" books, the other comics Crossgen produced such as Lady Death and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang don't interest me much.
P.S. - if anybody has doubles their looking to sell at bargain bin price, I'm looking for the following books:
Meridian 42
The First 26-37
Ruse 17-21, 24-26
Path 13, 15, 17-19
Brath 11-14
Route 666 8-22
Crossgen: Illustrated one-shot
Archard’s Agents: The Case of the Puzzled Pugilist one-shot
Archard’s Agents: Deadly Dare one-shot
Silken Ghost 1, 5
