Another LCS story
So, my last week before school starts...weather has been crappy, decide to take my twins to a local shop in Oconomowoc that I have been meaning to hit up for over a year. My boys are up for it because they know I'll get them an action figure each...(they were right, Ice Man and Obi Wan Kenobi)
Walk into the store...and it's really clean, organized and well laid out...with about 20 longs of back issues...all bagged, boarded, graded and priced (well under overstreet I might add...)...there is a back room with $1 boxed stuff...about 10 longs...nothing bagged and boarded...mainly new stuff back there all in pretty rough shape.
I spend about 45 minutes poking around..my kids are hanging out with another 6 or 7 year old that's in the place. They're fine, having fun and looking through the action figures.
The dollar bins have me intrigued. I start digging...find lots of Valiant commons...nothing I want or need. Noticed an Alan Moore 6 shot called Albion or somesuch...didn't get it...the black covers were too worn for my taste.
start digging through the nicer boxes...Magnus 0 through about 14...not quite at Greg's prices but more than I want to pay for things I have...same with the Solars...and they wanted $5 each for a unity 0 and 1...
I wind up getting some Batmans in between 252 and 320...graded VF and priced around $5 each, Marvel Premiere #19 for about the same, Astro City Special and Powers That Be 1 and 2...
As I'm checking out I ask about the Harb HC...this is the same shop that I had a student register me for it. The guy tells me it's ordered, should be in on the 29th and he double checks my name and phone.
I say to him..."I suppose I'm the only one getting one of those..." He proceeds to roll up his right sleeve and there it is...a Valiant Star tatooed on his bicep..."Nah, ordered one for myself too..."
Needless to say I will be returning, even without the HC on the way.
Place is called Kowabunga Comics...
So now I gotta ask...which one of you clowns is this guy???? As a Valiant fan he has to know about this site...
I'll ask him when I get there again.

Whoa, the owner had a Valiant tattoo? Don't see that very often. Very cool story, Myron.myron wrote:I say to him..."I suppose I'm the only one getting one of those..." Hmm...the writing underneath seems familiar, looks like the inscription on "the one ring" that rules them all..

Hello all,
I'm the LCS owner, and yes, I have the Valiant logo tattooed on my arm. I got it as a wedding present in 1993, so it is a bit faded. And yes, I did get a gold book for it during the Deathmate tour, when I was living in St. Louis. As I waited in line to get into the store, someone was at the front, asking if you were a Valiant fan (which I found to be kind of silly, since I was standing in line). When it was my turn, I showed the tattoo. They were apparently giving out foil cards, but the person thought I deserved more than a card, so I got a gold Turok, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, I had no idea this site was here and that there were this many Valiant fans still around. Very cool! I will definitely be checking back in. Thanks everyone!
Neil
PS-yeah, that's a line from the One Ring. Got the whole thing on both arms. It's an addiction.
