Started reading Red Circle
I have this morning recieved my first two Red Circle books in the post - Black Hood 1 and 2 (1983). Fun stuff! The books lead stories are written in a kind of noir style, narrated by the Hood himself. At first the character seems quite hard-boiled, but this is undermined a little by his super-motorcycle. Oh well. On top of it all, two great Alex Toth covers and a Toth strip (the Fox) in issue two. I am waiting on a few more issues (okay some 30+ issues...) that I recently ordered, but this is a DU I could really get into.

VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month
It is OFFICIAL, I am going to snag as many Red Circle books as I can as well !!! I went to www.mycomicshop.com and all the issues are mostly well under the $3.00 mark AND yes they have great covers and what appears to be great stories. I have issues 1, 3 of The Shield and issues 1, 2 of The Fly. I just breezed through them and got that 'I'm hooked' feeling in my stomach again. So, I am saving my dough and will place an order pretty soon myself. Remember that there is Red Circle Comics and also Red Circle/Archie Adventure Series comics. The titles change over after a few issues (I am sure you know that but just making that comment for those other DU collectors that may not
) So, I am IN, man.
I also am taking on 'Wonder Comics' (I think that is the name and I am sure it changes later) and Tower Comic's T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. Expensive for sure but I am patient, maybe I will hit the motherload on Ebay.
So far, my other very offbeat title, Rogue Trooper has met with VERY limited success. Good news though is that a board member sent me a VERY pristine Rogue Trooper #1 that I needed. VERY cool books IMO but I am pretty confused where these stories came from, they almost look like they came from a 'magazine' that produced perhaps 3-4 different character stories in their monthly mags and then the title 'Rogue Trooper' put two stories per issue and then an additional story at the end. (hmmmm gots to do me some research, yo !!)
But yeah man, Red Circle books are pretty damn good. Please dont disclose any spoilers cause I am right there with ya, just a little behind the power/money curve.

The original Rogue Trooper strips were published in 2000AD and were typically 5-7 pages in length, weekly. The comic was a much squarer shape than the rectangular US comic book format, which will have affected how they were reproduced. A typical serial would have run for many issues. There is nothing in my LCs but I can wok on UK ebay sellers and accumulate some stuff to send you as one parcel if required. PM me, mate.Knightt wrote:It is OFFICIAL, I am going to snag as many Red Circle books as I can as well !!! I don't know Wonder Comics. Are you trying to hook me on another DU...

Wait, false alarm. Not 100% dead yet. They still have announcements to the effect that they will continue publishing, but those shipping dates have been delayed for over a year now.Knightt wrote:OMG OMG what are THOSE ?Chiclo wrote:![]()
Anyone else ever read AK comics?
I mean... 'eh' ?

It's an egyptian comic company. They are either in the process of dying or they just keep delaying their english language books. They had four titles (and I bought every issue I could get my hands on at SDCC 06 just for the sheer novely of it) and have announced that they will be changing format to graphic novels but have kept delaying the shipping date.
Three of the titles take place in a post-apocalyptic future. After the 55 years war, the Middle East plunges into peace and democracy. There's Jalila, Aya and Zein. Jalila is a 25 year old nuclear scientist by day but at night she turns into a super-powered crime fighter. What a surprise, her main villains are some terrorists. She also has to deal with her brother, who is a junkie. Jalila is the Protector of the City of All Faiths, which is basically Jerusalem. Aya is one of those characters like Captain America and Batman. She has no superpowers but is at the peak physical training and conditioning for a human and beats up on street thugs. She's based in Algeria or thereabouts. Zein is the last Pharoah. He's stronger than the average human and has gadgets. He's on the more mystical side of things. Jalila's costume had to be re-designed early on to not expose her midriff and Aya had to be redrawn as less bloussant to be sold in Egypt. The fourth title, Rakan, takes place in the 15th century or so. He's wandering through the desert with his pet sabretooth tiger and his big villain is the Chessmaster. He's kind of like Ka-Zar or Turok in their own native elements.
I have the first three issues of each series as well as a grip of international issues, one of which was in Arabic. I've seen solicitations in the past through issues 7 but not seen any past 5 for sale. Small (D)U, recent but damnedably obscure.
Congratulations Stu !!!!

I believe the name of the company who published these was actually "Wonder Color Comics". There was also a company around the time just called Wonder Comix, so I think that's why they included the "Color". This was all around the time of the independent/b&w comic glut. If I recall correctly, they were one of the publishing arms that eventually became Malibu Comics. The 2nd issue of Power Factor was published by Pied Piper Press, as was a Hero Alliance graphic novel.Knightt wrote:No, no... more like these right here:X-O HoboJoe wrote:Hey, what are some of the Wonder Comics titles? As far as collecting these comics, I think with this auction, you have just about a complete set, as the only other thing Wonder Color Comics produced was a comic called GI Rambot #1.

On a Red Circle/MLJ note - I picked up the three TPB's (Shield, The Fly and Mighty Crusaders) and they are pretty fun. The Crusaders one is very overblown, camp (like 60's Batman TV camp) and silly, but fun. The Shield features some classic 40's stories and I would stronmgly recommend both (although I am only halfway through Shield and the Fly). Still making my mind up on the Fly.
