Am I the only one reading the Kirbyverse?
If you liked Fourth World or the Eternals you have got to read Kirby's last comics work - the Kirbyverse.
There are only 41 books right now, but Image is planning to revive the universe early next year.
Background for those who don't know... Kirby retired from comics in the late 70s and went into animation. A real loss for comics, obviously. Anyway, he was lured back in 1981 to work on creator owned projects by a small independent publisher named Pacific. While he was there, he wrote, drew and edited 2 books: Captain Victory (13 issues and 1 special) and Silver Star (6 issues.)
Much later (1993, to be exact) Topps comics offered Kirby a deal to create an new universe for their comics line. Kirby came up with a new project that combined elements of what he had wanted to do with Fourth World, and later Eternals, and came up with the Secret City Saga. The Kirbyverse is a set of inter-related titles like Fourth World was. Kirby did little actual work on the issues himself, but the books are really amazing and feature work by Roy Thomas, Steve Ditko, Walt Simonson and Kurt Busiek. Silver Star and Captain Victory were made part of the universe.
Checklist:
Pacific Books:
Captain Victory #1-13
Captain Victory Special #1
Silver Star #1-6
Topps Books:
Secret City Saga #0-4
Bombast #1
Nightglider #1
Captain Glory #1
Satan's Six #1-4
Satan's Six: Hellspawn #1-3
TeenAgents #1-4
Silver Star #1 (of a planned 4 issues)
Victory #1 (of a planned 5 issues)

I wonder what it would be like to be a lonely, muck-encrusted monster? Probably be an improvement.

Phantom Force was definitely Kirby, but has never been considered part of the Kirbyverse, at least that I'm aware of.

but #1-2 featured some Kirby's last artwork inked by some comics biggest names.

Kirby did the art for the first few books (IIRC, not sure though.)Brother J wrote:Wasn't Destroyer Duck the benefit book for Steve Gerber in his lawsuit vs. Marvel about Howard the Duck? I'm not sure if there was Kirby content. I do know the first appearance of Groo happened in Destroyer Duck, though.X-O HoboJoe wrote:Was Destroyer Duck part of the run at PC?

Boy, if given that choice, I think I'll be reading some Kirbyverse books..Knightt wrote:I would rather cut off my d!ck than read the Kirbyverse.
Kirby is a legend but only through his work at Marvel.

I know what you're saying, though. I have intentionally stayed away from those Topps comics because I thought the Kirby stuff was pretty bad.
