It's really great to be here . . . .
My VALIANT story is probably actually quite standard, I'd imagine. I started collecting comics in 1984 (when I was 7) with the 2nd issue of Who's Who and have been collecting ever since. On a trip to Colorado in 1992, I was fortunate enough to pick up copies of Shadowman #1 and Solar #10 for cover price (right before things started blowing up for VH1), and was hooked. I made sure to get all the issues of Unity and loved it (what my puny 15 year-old mind could comprehend).
I decided it was silly to spend my allowance on pre-Unity Valiants (I remember my friend Steve spent $140 on Magnus #12, which to me was absolutely absurd), so I stuck with new issues of every series and the reprint TPBs. My favorite post-Unity books were and still are Archer and Armstrong 1-12 and Eternal Warrior. I started my first year of college in the Fall of 1994 and began to lose interest in the books . . . . . mainly because they started sucking (someone convince me why Psi-Lords was a good idea). I feel kind of responsible for putting one of my LCS's out of business because I simply stopped buying all Valiant books on my pull list after the Chaos Effect. Valiant folded soon after, and I really didn't have much interest in the Akklaim stuff.
Fast forward to 2003 . . . . I'm at a Half-Price Book store in Olathe, KS and am thumbing through the $0.25 bin. In it I find Harbinger #1-7, Magnus #1-12, Solar #1-9, X-O #1, 2, 4, 5, and 6, and Rai #1, 2, and 3. I bought them immediatly and had what was basically a complete pre-Unity collection for less than $10. Then I read them. Amazing.
I trolled this board for awhile then, but never registered, and am now back as a full member, who is very happy to be here and hoping that the return of Valiant is as brilliant and successful as those pre-Unity Valiants were. Thanks for letting me rant.

In all honesty, I think this is one of the two best message boards on the net. And this one is the most friendly. Kudos to Greg and the members of this board for a great community.Doctor Dobson wrote:All of the Harbys were "couponed." The Magnuses were intact with the exception of #5. It was an amazing deal and a surprising one. Like I said, it's wonderful to be here.

i think there's a simple reason this board is made of some world class people, cause they're smart. I don't know about everyone else, but the smart people at my high school were always the nicest. Fart jokes and the like aside, everyone on this board has above average intelligence. You couldn't enjoy Valiant's in-depth writing if you were dumb.In all honesty, I think this is one of the two best message boards on the net. And this one is the most friendly. Absolutely true. Perhaps it helps that it's not populated by middle-schoolers. I was a regular on a board called niketalk, which became exceedingly unbearable as the number of insecure middle and high-school aged young people acting like they know everything about everything. This board is really quite refreshing.
Lightning Strike, in your opinion, what's the other board you reference?

Except women. We are smart enough to not even pretend knowing that.

Wow, guys reading through this thread made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I hung around on the periphery for awhile before joining the board here, I had this belief that boards consist of hormone-frenzied teens and guys that live in their parents' basement but from what I had read everyone was "good people" so I finally took the plunge. Stick around and speak your mind. BTW, welcome to the boards Doc Dobson.
