That's too complicated...
If only there was a way to just cut and paste right from eBay...

Now, I know I have read this hear, but....
Are the "ages" clearly defined. And, is it a year or something else? Is there a clear line of demarcation?

Oh it's bad, for sure.
And I want to thank some of you here for being my guides.
Now, what about the "Ages" question?

The lines between the ages are a little fuzzy, but once you get a couple of years away from the disputed demarcations, it's pretty straight-forward.Elveen wrote:ok, changed the title of the book, got it.

a "little"? Man... does everyone actually agree about any of these? I kind of wish it was just a chronilogical thing instead of trying to mix age with a *SQUEE* in attitude or whatever...Chiclo wrote:The lines between the ages are a little fuzzy, but once you get a couple of years away from the disputed demarcations, it's pretty straight-forward.Elveen wrote:ok, changed the title of the book, got it.

A very short list - some people stick with just these four, some expand the later years (Copper, Brass, etc.) and the years are in dispute, so I'll go over this roughly :
The Platinum Age - any pre-1900's comics up until around 1930
The Golden Age - from the 1930's until the late 50's or early 60's
The Silver Age - from late 50's/early 60's until the late 70's
The Bronze Age - from the late 70's until 1985
Strangley enough, a good portion of so-called 'experts' all agree that Crisis On Infinite Earths was the end of the Bronze Age...
Then, the Modern Age of Comics - from 1985 to present.
Wikipedia has a pretty good list on what most people use to demarcate in between the ages.....

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

"Silver Age"? Really? Is that a "source of pride" to collect Silver Age?
Doesn't the world know "Silver" as "that Olympic medal that's not as good as Gold"?
Why would anyone want to boldly label their collection "Second Best"?
Why not just say, "I collect comics from the 1960s"?
...and who cares when the Bronze Age started and ended?
If you collect books from the 1970s, just say it.
If you say "Bronze Age comics" to the average person,
they'll think you either collect "Third Best" books
(because of the Olympic bronze medal thing),
or they'll think you collect books about funny heiroglyphics from 3500BC to 1200BC.

What's wrong with saying, "I collect comic books from the 1970s"?
Isn't that easier than, "I collect Bronze Age comic books"?
<<To which the obvious reply is... "Oh really, what books are those?">>
...and the answer is... "Pretty much comics from the 1970s."

What kind of a dork would even want to say,
"I primarily collect comics from the early- to mid-Bronze Age,
with emphasis on pre-Modernian realism and social paradigms"?
On second thought, don't answer that question.

Actually, it was the (Golden Age) Flash 1-104, then they picked up the numbering from there. It was fairly common back then, but happened alot more when they had a title change than when they had a hiatus.stone384 wrote:Flash #105 is the first Silver age Flash title. And Chainnball... you got me droolin' here. Oh boy! If I can come up with the funds.... Whoa! I've been a Flash collector for over 20 years. I don't have a 105, although I do have a beater of a 110. But, that's one of the nicest 2.5s I've ever seen!

I've seen people on other boards talk that way.greg wrote:

I do think it's good to categorize books, and there are accepted points of entry and exit here usually involving some sort of ground-breaking character (Barry Allen Flash in the Silver Age), or event. But, I do think they are going too far with this whole "Copper Age" thing.

I suppose changing earlier eras would throw the rock-solid nation of comic collectors on their heads?
wait...
