Just because someone finds Anna Nichol Smith attractive doesn't mean they want to bang her cold, dead corpse.
First of all, I have a self-proclaimed affinity for redheaded women. Second, er, second.....
Dang. I don't have a "second."

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Oh yeah - after reading X-Men for so long, and no less my very first comic bought was Uncanny #171 (Rogue j oins the team) I have found that grey/white stripes in women's hair can be a turn-on.

Oh yeah, that's a given. Ever since Byrne brought her back the very first time (which completely ruined a GREAT ending to the Dark Phoenix stoyline), they've been killing her and bringing her back about every five years or so.slym2none wrote:Yeah, but I just know Marvel will resurrect her yet again. Hmm...that reminds me, isn't it about time for Cap to come back from the dead?Lightning Strike wrote:Oh yeah, that's a given. Oh, don't even get me started on that. Cap is one of my favorite characters (him and Thor are like 1A and 1B). Yet one more reason to hate Queseda.Daniel Jackson wrote:Hmm...that reminds me, isn't it about time for Cap to come back from the dead?Lightning Strike wrote:Oh yeah, that's a given. You know, it's popular to hate Joe Q and blame him for the stuff that has happened in the Marvel Continuity during his tenure and I have threatened him with pastry-oriented violence on this board in the past, but I am really coming around to appreciate the last couple of years in Marvel.Lightning Strike wrote:Oh, don't even get me started on that. Now, before I get too involved with this, he's really messed over a couple of your favourite characters and I can't really relate yet - at least not until they screw up the return of Thanos.
The Marvel Continuity has been rather constant since it's establishment in the early 60s. There's the Fantastic Four that is Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben. There's the Avengers, and their roster changes, but the more it changes, the more it stays the same. There's the X-Men, and their roster changes, but the more their roster changes, the more it stays the same. That really is the theme with the Marvel Continuity, though. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Trends are kept up like more mutants this year than there were last year. Neither retirements nor deaths are particularly permenant. Every major character has retired or died or both. Captain America retired, and the Captain took his place (and eventually became beloved member of Force Works and Omega Flight, USAgent). Tony Stark has retired and died and crawled in a bottle and locked horns with Aric of Dacia, and he still came back.
Joe Q piloted Marvel through the greatest shake-up of the continuity in its history. It was a very brave thing to do. I might not agree with the treatment of every character, but it would be like inheriting your dad's old mid-60s Porsche and then going out and driving it into a wall - you might not have done it yourself, but you have to admire the balls it took to go do that. And even through Avengers Disassembled, Hose of M, Civil War and Great Lakes Avengers Misassembled have shaken up the continuity, it's starting to heal itself. Those big shake-ups are already being undone. There are not one but two teams of Avengers. There is a Fantastic Four, even though for right now it doesn't involve Reed and Sue, it will within a year or two. Hank McCoy is working to find a way to bring the X back and several depowered mutants have already got their powers back.
In the end, those changes to the continuity will be erased and eventually forgotten. But Joe Q tried, and he had the balls to wreck that Porsche.

Just let me preface this by saying I dislike Queseda as EIC. His artwork is brilliant.Chiclo wrote:You know, it's popular to hate Joe Q and blame him for the stuff that has happened in the Marvel Continuity during his tenure and I have threatened him with pastry-oriented violence on this board in the past, but I am really coming around to appreciate the last couple of years in Marvel.Lightning Strike wrote:Oh, don't even get me started on that. But I don't just dislike Queseda because he killed off Cap, and before that Thor, and it took him two years to bring him back (finally!). But it's a lot more than just those two things.
Among other things, he gives Bendis carte blanche to do whatever he wishes, continuity be damned. Why?
He knows this will alienate old fans, but he does it anyway. It's like he's giving his finger to the old fans just because he can. Keep in mind that we're talking about the fans that basically BUILT Marvel by buying their product since the 60's. NOT the fans of the late 90's and today.
And that's something I just don't get.
