Talking to the key Harbinger Players

Quotes of interest
“I did also find out that the zero issue, which was written by David Lapham kind of loosely based on my treatment, he had Harada meet (Harbinger’s hero) Peter Stanchek,” Shooter said – referencing the original feature film treatment. “I didn’t know that, I had never read that issue. So then I had to go make a correction in one of the later issues. The way I wrote it they were meeting for the first time but then I had to change it to ‘Oh, so we meet again.’”
I knew there was something off about how the stories lined up, I just couldn't put my finger on it.
So if Shooter enjoyed working on the new story (even if it is in retrospect) does he have any more plans to write any further stories for the new Valiant? “I don’t know,” Shooter answered honestly. “I did the new story as a favor for Walter Black, a very nice man, he’s the Publisher for Valiant Entertainment.
While it doesn’t sound like Shooter is interested in doing any more new Valiant comics at the moment it is always safe to assume to never say never, especially when Valiant is concerned.
What is known is two new characters will appear in Jim Shooter’s new story and the hardcover has been bumped up from 192 to 200 pages.
Think the new story is only six-seven pages long? (eight with the cover?)

Seems every time I log in these days there is something new and exciting to learn. I did not know Walter Black was the publisher for VEI.............   . That is good to hear. Seems like everyone who has ever made a positive contribution to Valiant is signing on.

Great article, BTW!

Great article Ryan!!!

Now we know Walter Black's role at Valiant Entertainment also. :thumb:

The fact that Jim Shooter did the story as a favor to Walter says a lot - at least to me.

I am ever more eager to see what this trade is going to be. As for Shooter, even if all he does is come in once in a moon and "fix" little bits of continuity-even if it is only for the trades-I think this is all the better.

Found this bit interesting in the interview...
The sky is truly the limit with the new Valiant. Bob Layton, another former Valiant Editor-In-Chief, has already said on his own blog, “And don’t get me started about the new owners of Valiant Entertainment! I’ve already done two big assignments for them and…sigh…you guessed it—sworn to secrecy."
Stuff like this makes me more and assured that Valiant will return - In full swing that is!

Jim did tell me who the new characters are...

they are...

my mom.

Ryan's Mom (58) - Power: To be a yenta.

and

Aric's baby. Yeah. It seems that before he left the past Aric had a fling with some caveman woman. Well...through the Lost Land that baby comes back to be raised. The new book: X-O And Cub.

...

Sorry...I'm still mad at the Gilmore Girls for suddenly having a daughter showing up two seasons ago. AND DON"T MOCK THE GILMORE GIRLS. I know where you live.

IN ALL SERIOUSNESS (though I'm not kidding about the Gilmore Girls...) I'm glad you all liked the article. And there's more coming up! I'm doing a seperate article on the Valiant Coloring Process...I was going to put it in this one until I realized it was already very big and the coloring could be an article in itself...l

I like the idea of Shooter cleaning house and tweaking the dialogue on all the issues (pre and post Unity) to make sure that the whole thing (from Magnus #0 - the first VALIANT story ever written - to X-O Manowar #68 - the last real VALIANT story-) fits in the same continuity.

Gilmore Girls. That's sad.

It was disturbing, though, the resemblence between Lorelai and Ana Nardini. Both Sherilynn Fenn and Lauren Graham are high quality pieces of tail, though.

I was thinking the same thing...

Congrats on your gig as publisher! Is that anything like being the editor in chief? I really do not know who does what at a comic company. :?

Good article. I'm sad to see that Shooter's involvement might be a one time thing but I'm stoked to hear that Walter has a spot at the top.
