Silver Surfer/FF Quarters
Has anybody found one of these? Silver Surfer Quarter
I can't see 40,000 as being overly rare, but I'd love to get one for my FF collection.
Thanks!

Ya know, I just looked up Franklin Mint in Websters Dictionary, and it does in fact say, "Crap that is never worth more than the original retail price".greg wrote:40,000 is a pretty small number for a U.S. coin, but "Franklin Mint" is synonymous

Wow.

When they are using it to make a collect call to get a ride, because they wasted a $100 on a quarter that commemorates a movie that hasn't made any money, yet.Daniel Jackson wrote:Yeah, mostly caused by movie frenzy I'm sure. On a related note, has anyone seen the baseball commemorative quarters? I was at Walgreen's (pharmacy) the other day and saw them at the checkout. I didn't really look at who made them but they looked pretty cruddy.

I can't believe what these are selling for . . .
Now that's just silly. Why not buy a beautiful copy of FF #48 instead?siren3-4 wrote:![]()

No kidding, that would at least maintain its value. This would be one of those things that would be interesting to look up on eBay in about a year and see what they are going for. I am thinking that burning cash to heat your house would be a sounder investment than this. Aren't there any coin-collecting people on this board that could chime in with some opinion on this? I just can't possible see this holding anything near this value.MagnusRF wrote:Now that's just silly. Why not buy a beautiful copy of FF #48 instead?

Yes, but it's hard not to admit what a great application this was for the Franklin Mint crap. The marketing firm that came up with the idea is brilliant. I understand they commisioned the work from the Mint and released 40,000 of them into circulation somehow, correct?greg wrote:40,000 is a pretty small number for a U.S. coin, but "Franklin Mint" is synonymous

If so, I understand the prices. That's a tiny number compared the total number of quarters currently in circualtion. If you want one, you are going to be hard pressed to find one in your change.
These will likely fall into the hands of those who deal with cash money - bankers, vending machine operators, etc. They will make a mint selling these if they are smart, as while they will find them from time to time, I doubt there will ever be a big supply in one place. (assuming there isn't a hoard that was not put into curculation).
All that being said, $600 is nuts. $25 is reasonable for a limited piece of crap item.
