Ultimate Gah Lak Tus
In 3 parts
- Ultimate Nightmare
- Ultimate Secret
- Ultimate Annihilation
I picked up all 3 graphic novels recently and I'd always been hesitant about reading the ultimate line of comics. Like that Quizno's commercial, "I fear change and shall keep my thorny bush."
Well I was an idiot, I'm almost finished the 3rd book and the stories have been awesome. Nightmare and Annihilation more so than Secret but they were incredibly well written. The character shifts felt natural and realistic and the *SQUEE* focus wasn't built around Wolverine.
How the handled the climax was a little weak but still damned solid and I am very curious about the aftermath.
Is there any books out there that might add to this storyline at all?

I really liked the three series, but the middle section had a massive delay within it. In turn, figuring out wher it fits into Ultimates is a nightmare. But if you haven't tried Ultimates (1 or 2) yet, then maybe give it a try. To my mind it is the closest of the 'regular' (heh!) books to the feel of the Gah Lak Tus trilogy. Ultimate War was quite fun too, but unrelated. There is a (slowly unfolding - delays again: aaaarrrgggghhhh!) Ultimate Vision minis series which will presumably be collected. When it is finished that is
I know the Ultimate line has divided much opinion, but I like the books.
Now if we can have an issue of Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk this year, we may see the conclusion by 2010. But then Lost is due to end around that time also, so what excuses would the writer have then?
Rant over. Sorry.

ahhhhh...the sweet scent of missed deadlines. Where's Shooter when we need him? How I miss collecting comics off of the shelf.
A Douglas Adams quote (was it Adams?) comes to mind. "I love deadlines. I particularily love the sound of them as the fly by."
I have been considering picking The Ultimates so I think I will do that. I am probably missing out on some great strories by only going for graphic novels, but the nearest LCS to me is a 45 minute drive. It is Golden Age Collectibles in downtown Vancouver which is nice, but I don't make it into the city that often.

Me too. I only bought the last couple of issues just to finish it off. The last issue was a disapointment anyway. If I wasn't buying the series in the first place, I'd never have finished the last few issues just to complete the run. Once again, Millar proves that he's ridiculously overrated. I probably won't buy Ultimates 3, even though Loeb is writing it. I'm just kind of sick of the whole thing.stone384 wrote:Ultimates 2 #12 is supposed to be out today!!!! Yay. I am just happy it is over. I have long given up on enjoying the series.

Millar should quit being so high on himself in his grandstanding writing and just write comic books. -eck-

I think the titel has been hurt - realy hurt - by the ever worsening delays. That said I think the series has delivered some big set-pieces and stories that have a different feel to a regular Avengers title with the writing and art strong enough for me to keep reading. I like it a lot.

The Ultimates might be the most important book Marvel has put out for a long while.
I think you can trace the increased prominence of Captain America and Iron Man in the regular continuity (and events thereafter) to that book, previously, I would argue, Marvel was very X and Spidey centred.
It's awesome too.

Quoted because I agree that the mainstream (non-Spidey, non-X books) MU has benefitted.Zool wrote:The Ultimates might be the most important book Marvel has put out for a long while.

Not really about adding to this, but I picked up the HC colection of these three series a couple of weeks ago and loved re-reading all three arcs back to back.MProyas wrote:In 3 parts

Even if the release is very sporadic, but it does have Ultimate AIM which is cool to me.superman-prime wrote:pick up ultimate vision, it starts right after the trilogy and is good so far
On a related note I would like to see the Ultimate Ultron and Ultimate Vision II robots be utilised at some point.
