I ain't British, but I went to one in London... It was alright but I can't really compare to anything as I've never been to one in North America.

I'm not a Pommie either, but have come across these sites;
http://www.londonexpo.com/
http://www.comicexpo.net/
We have even less cons in Australia < http://www.supanova.com.au/ > & New Zealand < http://www.pulpexpo.com/ >.
Some times a sci-fi con will have a comics related guest. Last year Conflux < http://www.conflux.org.au/ > had Dan Abnett, and this year have Kevin J. Anderson.
PS - So if anyone is willing to get some comics signed at a US con for me, please let me know.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
