Here's my valiant chronicle...

Post by Rufusharley »

Well, i've never really detailed my origins into valiant comics. And i felt that i needed to relate my short, but i'm sure familiar, story into this universe (to really be an official member;))

My story's quite like a lot of peoples here i would imagine. I got into comics in high school. During those young adolescent years i loved to excape into my own world of books. I always loved to read. My cousins came over to visit one year and shared a few of their comics that they were into (X-men, Predator, Spiderman), and that got me hooked.

At first i stuck with X-men and Green Hornet but then i picked up Wizard 17 and was really impressed with all the articles and interviews in there. The characters looked cool, and i wanted to find out about their stories. I basically decided to start collecting them right when Bloodshot #1 came out. That might have been my favorite title at the time. All the pre-unity stuff was kind of out of my price range, but i did scour the back issues for a Unity set. I loved that story. In fact i would always brag to my other comic book friends that Valiant had the best writting and stories. I was very proud to be a valiant fan. I even wrote to a local congressman about how they should be more like this comic book company i liked and to try to focus on quality in their work (that actually got me a gold Hard Corps!). I remember one time i saw a Solar 1, and an X-O 1 and 3, pined to the wall of a comic store and couldn't help myself. The Solar 1 was 70 bucks...that was a lot of cutting lawns!

I collected for maybe 2 years and then i guess just kind of grew out of it. The interest was no longer there. I remember stoping by a local comic store a coulple years after that, kind of on a whim, and seeing that valiant had changed their logo from the 'star' to the 'V'. I thought that looked kind of dumb. I flipped through one but you could kind of tell that the quallity was gone. I left and blew comics off for a while, but always kept all my old books. I didn't have a lot, just one very tight long box.

Then about January of last year i was in a used book store and decided to look through a wooden chest of old comics. They had a bunch of common valiants, and even a number of gold issues mixed in. I thought that was cool, but for some reason ...didn't buy the golds (they were 25 cents!) I figured they would still be there next week and would get them then. When i went back of course they were gone, and i was stunned. I went on line to try to find out exactlly how much they would be worth today and that ...is how i came to find this site and board. And i've been trying to get to 100% ever since. (and i'm nearly there!)

And that's basically my story...

It's a pretty familiar story ... so many of us got back into this stuff over the last couple of years for whatever reason. I doubt if people are getting back into Youngblood comics.

I'm not sure if my 'golden' effort ever made it to print... :hm: . Wouldn't that be something.

I was almost 100% sure I read a story like that in one of the old VALIANTS. Either way that was one of the coolest things about VALIANT. Hearing about fans getting golds for stuff they did :thumb:

At least that was the one nice thing about the crash...getting all of the golds and incentive books for practically nothing.
