Actually, this issue of Wizard (the 2007 preview) is a pretty good read. It feels a little like Wizard from back in the day.Daniel Jackson wrote:What keeps a rag like Wizard going anyway? I figured it would go the way of Hero Illustrated by now.
I think they always have some kind of gag for that feature.dellamorte wrote:The pub is nice but why the joke? Does Wizard still have a hate for VALIANT?

Mike Judge often makes fun of Winger.
In Beavis and Butthead, Stewart was a character who looked up to Beavis and Butthead but was quite lame. He wore a Winger t-shirt to counter their usual Metallica and AC/DC shirts.
John Redcorn on King of the Hill was a roadie for Winger before he had a spiritual vision and became a professional healer/male escort.

I have a hard time totally bashing wizard.
They are the only comic based magazine and there actually is a good amount of information you can get from it.
Wizard briought me up to speed with what was happening with Green Lantern and Identity Crisis as I was getting back into comics, even made me pick up the books in TPB form to read them. (and I'm a Marvel guy)
It would be nice to have a few magazines to choose from, competition is always a good thing, but it's all there is.
I do think that, with the easy access to ebay and sales prices, they could keep their price guide more accurate.

The Wizard employee who made this graphic must have thoughtChiclo wrote:Mike Judge often makes fun of Winger.

that Torque looks a lot like Kip Winger.
(Sadly, this probably means that guy was a huge Winger fan...
guilty by association to a reference only a fan should know...)

Here's what Kip Winger looked like in 1992 (same date as Harbinger 6):

(...and since Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister) was a Wizard employee in the 1990s,
I shouldn't rule out that the Wizard employee who made this graphic
was none other than Kip Winger himself.)

I think so... I remember seeing him in Wizard in the mid-1990s...Daniel Jackson wrote:Dee Snider worked for Wizard?greg wrote:...and since Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister) was a Wizard employee in the 1990s,

usually in photos of the staff playing games in the office aisles.
He showed up enough to make me think he was working there,
not just "dropping by" for the fun of it.
Anyone else remember those Wizard's with Dee Snider in them?

You think they have a hate for Valiant? The recent Magnus and Harbinger sidebars suggest otherwise. And I'm amazed that they still have Valiant titles listed in the price guide. Lots and lots of other good books don't get listed at all, but they seem to support Valiant.dellamorte wrote:The pub is nice but why the joke? Does Wizard still have a hate for VALIANT?

Is CBG (Comic Buyer's Guide) no longer being published? The last time I bought Wizard, I felt like I had totally wasted my money.siren3-4 wrote:I have a hard time totally bashing wizard.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I look at it more like this . .Heath wrote:Is CBG (Comic Buyer's Guide) no longer being published? The last time I bought Wizard, I felt like I had totally wasted my money.siren3-4 wrote:I have a hard time totally bashing wizard.

I had to stop buying all the DC titles after IC but In still kind of wonder what is happening in the books. I can count on Wizard to run some kind of article or update telling me what is going on.
They also rate TPB's that come out (like movie reviews) and that has helped m,e discover books that I wouldn't have read otherwise, Invincible, Fables . . .
So I feel like I do get something for the $ I dish out.

I haven't read Wizard in a decade so I don't know what's going on now. I based the hate comment on the constant bashing they did after Valiant seemed to falter in the mid '90's. And while no press is bad I'd like to see a serious look at Valiant from them since so many people seem to listen to what they say good or bad.D-Lite wrote:You think they have a hate for VALIANT?
