Valiant-related video games

Post by bribri »

I'm interested in knowing how many Valiant-related video games exist. I've done some research on the net and this is what I've come up with.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Turok: Rage Wars
Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion
Turok: Evolution

Shadowman
Shadowman: Second Coming

Iron Man/X-O Manowar: Heavy Metal

Are any of these games worth playing? What formats are available? It looks like most of the Turoks are available on N64 and/or Gamecube, and Shadowman is on PS1 and/or PS2. Was the X-O N64?

Any experts out there?

You also forgot the Armorines game released for the ps1 and the game boy.
Oh never mind they were forgetable anyways

I think that covers all of them though.

Shadowman was released on pc, N64 and the Playstation but the best version was released on the Sega Dreamcast.

Shadowman 2ndcoming was only released for the PS2 didn't sell well at all. Which is probably why it wasn't ported over X-Box.

X-O/Ironman:Heavy Metal was released on both pc, PS1 and Sega Saturn

Turok the first one : N64 only
Turok 2 : N64 only
Turok 3 : N64 only
Turok Rage wars : N64 only
Turok Evolution : PS2, Gamecube and X-Box

That should cover them all.

Turok Rage Wars was da bomb! Seriously. I played the hell out of that game.
I still fire up the 'ole 64 now and again to kick some dino butt. The 1st Turok game sold really well. There is a PC version for 1 and 2 I believe. Some of the Turok games also came out for Gameboy and or Gameboy advance.

OK, being a video game fan since the days of Pong and Asteroids, and having played all of these games with the exception of the "Shadowman: Second Coming" game, I feel I am very qualified to recommend those I find worthy. IMHO the first Turok game, "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" is the best of the lot. This game is a blast...first rate. I remember playing it when it first came out, and being blown away by how emersive it was. As the levels progress and you encounter new types of dino's and other evil-doers you just get such a rush of discovery! I've recently busted out the old N64 and revisited "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" and I must say, it holds up very well. Even against the technologically superior XBOX and PS2 offerings, it holds it own. All the intangibles that come together to make a game great are there....control, graphics, atmospheric environments, sound effect, music, and of course the playability or fun factor. I was so blown away by the original Turok game, that as the other were released an hyped as "better than the original", I was always disappointed that none of the later Turok games ever came close to matching the overall experience of the first. I remember the first time I was working my way through the game, it was very late and I had been playing for many hours. I was in a very creepy level, cautiously working my way through, when something happened that just about caused me to jump outta my skin! Really caught me by surprise and scared the crap outta me. I don't want to go into more detail, because I don't want to spoil it for others who may be trying this game for the first time. There was another part in the game when you are trying to complete an objective when you discover another little surprise and find your self going "How totally cool is this!", again, don't want to give away too much, but little surprises like this are what makes a game truelly memorable. One other cool little thing about the first Turok game, they have these big monsters and they are called "Perlins" as a little tribute to Don Perlin. Some of my friends who also tried the first Turok game were a little put off by the control style....how you use the joysticks to move Turok. But once you get used to it, it really works quite well. At the time it came out, it was unique, and it took a little getting used to. All the other Turok games are OK, but none was a good as the first. The "Turok: Rage Wars" game offers some pretty fun multi-player action. Second on my list of Valiant related games is the "Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M" game, also on N64. This Armorines game is pretty cool. Basically, it's one big bug hunt. One thing I really like about it was the ability to play a 2-player cooperative game. This lets you and a friend play together on the same side...blasting bugs and working your way through levels. I know you can pickup a N64 system pretty cheap now, and both "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" and "Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M." can also be obtained pretty cheap. I highly recommend any Valiant fans who haven't experienced these games yet to pick them up and give them a try. And for those who do, here is a little tip for completing the Turok game. When jumping across the square pillars, turn your map on and use the map to help you make the jumps. I was having alot of trouble with this until I turned on the map. After that, no problem! Damn....all this has got me Jonesing for a "Turok" fix...gotta break out the old N64!

Awesome. I have a N64 and I was thinking about picking up some of these games. The great thing is that many of them are on eBay for really cheap. I'm gonna have to check them out.

Thank!

I think, as is true, the first turok game is the best. the second was fun, and the cerebral bore was awesome, but the third sucked. never heard of the shadowman games, or the xo/im games. thank god acclaim made turok, or i wouldnt be here. that game was the spark. then seeing a turok comic was the gas the spark fell on.

Oh yeah....gotta love that Cerebral Bore! I loved that sound it would make as it drilled into its victim's skull. Classic weapon!
