Confession time…

Post by Shakespeare »

Okay, this ought to be fun.

Here’s the place, now’s the time, to confess something about your interest in Valiant that you’ve never had the guts to say before. If you believe that X-O #68 was a brilliant way to end the ‘verse, or you think that Archer and Armstrong got better after BWS left, then let everyone know! (and no, saying “I liked Bad Penn" isn’t a revelation, as most of us did think it was pretty good stuff for post-Unity)

Now let’s all keep it friendly…no making fun of people for their choices. This is a time of acceptance, as long as the person is being honest. Feel free to respond with a :bugeyed: or a :censored: , but don’t get too mean. Let’s air our dirty laundry!

If something is a major story spoiler, please let us know.

I’ll start:

I think Rai #0 is a little overrated. I like it, I champion it as a must-read, but when you think about it, a) it was plotted, not written, by Shooter, and we have no idea what they changed, and b) it’s all a set up to Rai and the Future Force, which was a huge disappointment.

SPOILER FROM AFTER MAGNUS #40 -- I liked the idea of Armstrong being the Eternal Geomancer. He had a very Buck-like attitude, and it explained a lot about why he and Gilad never got along. END SPOILER

I would agree that Rai #1 is over-rated. I haven't quite got the animosity toward it that Unblessed does, but I don't like it very much.

It felt too forced. Too much crammed into so little space. If it had been a mini-series or somthing it would have been better I think.

Also, the world and space is a big place. It's not very convincing that all these character's futures would be so tightly knit together and everything would be so neat.

Aric blowing off Geoff's request was totally out of character.

Oh...and the whole "Armstrong walked off the panel and was never heard from again" is pretty lame. Same for the "Good Skin flew off the panel and was never seen again"

Other than that I liked it. Armorless Old Aric busting through the door and slicing up Harada was a huge shock and it's still powerful to read today.

The scene with Phil and Gayle was amazing.

I thought H.A.R.D Corps leaving earth was a really wierd and a really cool development....

which leads me to my own confession....

I liked Psi-Lords

I thought that the last 4 books in Magnus sucked. And am glad I only traded for them because I would have never bought them if I had read them first.

It was as if Giffen secrectly hated Magnus and set out to destroy everything that made the character great.

Pfft... everyone knows that Edward de Vere really wrote all those plays and poems.

I really enjoyed the first dozen or so issues of HARD Corps. And I have not yet read an issue of Magnus.

Same here, I really dig the early HARD Corps issues but it is no 'confession' for me. I like what I like... and it was the HARD Corps.

I'm really not a big Harbinger fan. I accept it only because it's one of the origionals. Again . It's hard for me to really place my finger on what exactly i dislike about it. I hate to say it but i think it could have been written better. Or maybe it was hard to really get to know multiple main characters. But i liked HARD Corps so ..... i don't know...

BOO YAA

Being in the Army just about 20 years now, I realized that there were not too many books about Army guys... and back then, I just thought it was cool, the whole concept everything. Perhaps there was not much purpose to it but I still liked it just fine.

Haven't yet started reading Armorines, Knightt. Any thoughts? I know I will end up getting the series at some point I am sure.

Hey I really liked them as well... even for Marines  But the idea to me was pretty sound but I think it was hard to weave military units into the Valiant universe effectively, still there was some pretty good elements to it though... as long as you have read some of the 'teen' numbered X-O Manowar books, Armorines makes sense... personally, I liked them as well. But as with HARD Corps and Armorines, the tail end of the books was crappy as with most Valiant books... the ending is painful, no pun intended.

Cheers for the insight fella. As a civilian ('I'm a lover not a fighter' - and probably not a good one at that) it is interesting to read the view of someone with a military background in relation to books such as these.
