Jim Calafiore
What non-Valiant books did Calafiore illustrate that YOU really enjoyed? I'm re-reading my short Aquaman run, and I really really like Jim C's art. The Peter David story was pretty good, but I didn't like the idea of bringing back Mera in 47-49, but the art has saved the books for me.
The switch to Eric Battle at 50 is saddening... And the Erik Larsen covers pale compared to the previous interior Calafiore art. Larsen's style doesn't work well for Aquaman at all.
Sorry... too much rambling...

What do you mean - are there good non-Valiant books?Schmakt wrote:What non-VALIANT books did Calafiore illustrate that YOU really enjoyed?

Ok, I have picked up some non-Valiant books expressively because of Jim Calafiore, and I did like Exiles.

Re: Jim Calafiore
what i loved about aquaman pre-issue #50 was that aquaman had lost everything.Schmakt wrote:What non-VALIANT books did Calafiore illustrate that YOU really enjoyed? dolphin was humping tempest, vulko was plotting with his son to sieze the throne, his son absolutely hated him, and he was extremely unpopular with the people of atlantis.
then issue #50 hits.
suddenly, dolphin and tempest come and apologize to arthur "it's ok" he says. then vulko and his son apologize for the troubles they've been causing "it's ok" he says. then they take him out on a balcony and everyone in atlantis is cheering...they all love him again.
what utter bullcrap.
the killing stroke for me was the fact that during battle his costume changes. go back and check out issue #50...he starts in the old costume, gets a new one and the battle breaks out. halfway through the battle he ends up back in the old costume and then back to the new one.
i immediately went to the counter and cancelled my aquaman subscription.
while i did dig califiore's art on aquaman i absolutely loved martin egeland's stuff better.
sorry jim!

Hello,
Jim is currently woring on Exiles with Mark McKenna (inks). They have a 3 issue up-comig story arc in Excalibur. I think it will be 18, 19, 29 but I will have to check.
Jim also did some woderful work on Dead Pool and Black Panther.
Also, some really beautiful non-super hero work on a book called Faction Paradox. He really streched his artistic/story telling muscles with Faction Paradox. He laso did spot art for a hardcover limited edition about the story and explanation of Faction Paradox.
Jim also wrote and issue of Green Arrow, 54 or 55, I think.
He has aslo done some wonderful illustration in Wizard (I hate that magazine. I only buy it when Jim tells me has art it or I take the chance and buy to find his work in it.)
(Mid-Late 1990's)He has also done some Reurection Man comics and some later Excalibur comics. He has also done some covers for What If? and War Machine. A wonderful What If? issue with Juggernaut He has done covers for Fantastic Four Un-Plugged. He has drew some great Force Works issues.
I have a pretty good check list for his stuff. I am going from memory here. If anyone wants to talk about Jim and his work, send me and e-mail. He is my favorite comics artist working in comics today. I would love to discuss his work with other fans of this talented artist.

Thanks for the info, I have a few Valiants that I would like to have signed by him. It would be cool if someone here would do a project using one of his books.JCal Fan wrote:Hello,
