Magnus #0 SIGNED x2 (from Layton's stash of 40) VcVSS
Hey gang,
For those who don't yet know I won Bob Layton's auction of 40 untouched Magnus Robot Fighter #0's with BWS card. I thought it would be a cool idea to get them signed and distribute them for cost to board members. Kind of like starting our own valiantcomics.com validated signature series! This is really so that all those people that helped bring valiant back can have something special to connect the community together and to connect the valiant resurgence to this website and these boards.
Both Bob Layton (inker) and Janet Jackson (colorist) have agreed to sign, number and personalize (e.g. To Dino) the books. Greg's going to be doing up some cool certificates stating that the books were signed by the real Janet and Bob and that they came from Bob's private collection of 40 Magnus #0's.
If you're interested in one email me at shamdasa@usc.edu (my pm box is almost full) or pm me. They are going to be a little expensive at $28 plus shipping each. I tried to get them as cheap as I could but the cost of the books as well as shipping them around to get signed and the COA's etc made it hard. Magnus #0 with card goes for between $15 and $25 plus shipping on eBay so these are a little more expensive. I think they're worth the extra bucks, hope you guys do too.
As far as numbering goes, let me know if you want a specific number or if you want the lowest or highest number possible etc. And I will do my best. It will be first come first serve and a few numbers are already gone. The books will be numbered out of whatever number people want books. i.e. if 20 people want one then the books will be out of 20. If there are close to 40 people who want books I'll get the whole lot signed.
Shipping: buyer can choose whatever shipping methods he prefers. The books will ship once they are signed etc. That may take a while (I figure about a month from today). I'll be taking purchases from now for at least a week, possibly longer, and will then send the required number of books to be signed. After that there won't be anymore books signed. I want to make this as easy for Bob and Janet as I can so I'm going to send them only one batch (however big) to sign.
Thanks to both Janet Jackson and Bob Layton for so graciously agreeing to take time out of their busy schedules to make this happen. They were both incredibly nice about the whole thing. So far it has been a great experience organizing this. Also thanks to Greg for helping out with the COA's. And thanks to Steve for the idea in the first place.

Wanted to bump this. The response has been incredible. Both in terms of orders and excitement. Check out this quote:
"_Great_ idea, and a wonderful "thank you" for the hard-core Valiant fans. It's great that an idea like this can be floated & executed years after the company's ended. And especially with Magnus 0, my all-time favorite Valiant book."

Who said they were going to be overpriced? I was going to sell the 9.4s and 9.6s at cost to board members, which would have added about $20 to the current price of each book.Steve G. wrote:Glad to hear the response has been so favorable!!!:)
This is ultimately better for all of us than putting them all in overpriced CGC slabs.....I'm very happy that Dino wanted to do it. This is what I call "Love In Action", & ya can't stop it!---Steve G
(Dino and I drove the price of these up, each with our own ideas about what to do with them. I was going to arrange a CGC yellow-label signing.
What dino is doing here with the double signing/numbering is terrific - he should be wholeheartedly commended.)

Official answer "Crap in my pants."Steve G. wrote:...sorry CKB...I didn't mean any offense. Bumping up the price by $20, just to probably get a 9.4 or less in a slab just isn't worth the $48 to me. This way I get a raw book for $28, & I decide whether it's 'slabable' or not. BTW, I'm curious, what would you have done if they ALL came back 9.8 or better?
In that very unlikely scenerio, I would have sold as many as necessary 9.8+ on ebay, one at a time, slowly, to double my investment. Then I would have made the at-cost offer to board members. There probably would still have been 20 or so left, which I would have put away indefinitely (or whittled down VERY slowly) so as not to flood the market. I would have "set the price" on 9.8s, as the current person with hoard of X-O 1/2 gold's is doing.
I did not even consider that until you asked me here. I have dealt with CGC enough to know that it's pretty much out of the realm of possibility.
(on the more likely scenerio, I would have sold any sub 9.4 copies at well under cost to those who wanted them, as long as my investment was secure. While the grade on the books in my idea is important, you are really buying the yellow label. I compare it to the Dave Sim Cerebus signed books out now. They are all "worth a slab" as a piece of history - they are not reading copies.) IMHO!

Just wanted to keep everyone up to date.
There are two (2) copies left.
If you want the book personalised please be sure to let me know. So far only three people have asked for them to be personalised.
Once the last two books are reserved I'll be waiting for payments and then sending Bob the books and a list of what to sign and to who.
Thanks for all the interest, it has been amazing.

I'm not sure how Greg is doing with the certificates, I figure let him take his time coz I know he'll come up with a masterpiece (no pressure there GregDawgPhan wrote:I cant believe that people went to go see that movie.. and Day After Tomorrow sucked

I made a boatload of HSX cash of Day After Tomorrow. It had one of the best trailers this summer. Shrek 2 keeps suprising me, I can't remember the last time a film made 86m and came 2nd! how many records has it broken so far? It looks set to be one of the top 10 biggest US earners. Tory did nicely at third though, and is doing very well overseas.
And it rocked! You need to post it for everyone to see man.architect wrote:I created a certificate and sent it to Dino a few weeks ago!
