Re-Reading: Magnus Robot Fighter #16 (Unity)
I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do
For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.
Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

Re: Re-Reading: Magnus Robot Fighter #16 (Unity)
Unity is Unity. In many ways this is one of the less spectacular Unity issues, but it is still a good part of this fantastic storyline. And like everything else in Unity it's a good story by itself. Also, props for Magnus' birth and its importance in the Valiant universe. Another example of how geniously everything was weaved together. Magnus holding Magnus is a nice touch.

Finally we get to Unity. The art takes a little bit of a hit. The artist just isn't as suited for showing malees as the the others who've graced this title. And, as with last issue, there's some definite visual differences with scenes we'll see in other comics. And tragically the world balloons blend into the background making the issue a little hard to read. But overall the art is still good and I'm not holding any of the techincal defects against the issue.
The story is good. It's fun to see the 20th and 41st centuries contrasted. Everyone's double take at the things the 41st century characters say is priceless.
Magnus is a total bad a$$ like usual. The scene between him and Mothergod was pure Shooter Magnus. One of the joys of the crossover was that everyone got to take a whack at Mothergod (or atleast was given the opportunity to). It's interesting to see how each characters fairs against her (or reacts to her).
Tieing Magnus's origin into Harbinger was gutsy on the part of Shooter but it works well. Magnus talking to himself as a baby at the end was just classic.
The issue works better when read with EW 2, Rai 7, Harbinger 9, and Solar 13 and Unity 1. Each issue gets the story closer and closer to the end creating suspence that pays off in Solar 13.
Anyway good stuff. A 9.

Seaborn's synopsis:
Magnus is recruited from 4001 by Gilad, Rai and Rokkie in the battle against the Mothergod. They arrive in Unity on Day One where they encounter Solar and the others recruited by Geoff. They are assaulted by Erica’s forces but go on the offensive immediately. Sting senses that Solar is dead and the heroes retreat. On Day 157, Kris is about to deliver her baby which Geoff learns will grow up to be Magnus. Later, Geoff decides to enter the stronghold himself to reason with Erica. The two Gilads attempt to rescue him while the rest create a diversion. Magnus separates from the group and finds Geoff who informs him that Solar is alive but trapped. Armstrong helps Kris and Pete deliver the baby. Zeppelin informs the team that Magnus may be lost and Kris beseeches Sting to rescue him. Sting rescues Geoff and Magnus as he faces down Erica. They escape back to their camp where, unbeknownst to Magnus, he meets himself as Kris’s baby.
