nice. I've never read any Planetary. I'll have to check it out sometime.Elveen wrote:Elveen wrote:Lightning Strike wrote:awesome book!Elveen wrote:Just started a Planetary re-read!
It's better every time.
In the middle of the second Planetary TPB, this book is all around good. Some issues are not as good as others, bit for example, the 1st issue with Ambrose Chase is about as a good a single issue of a comic can be. Amazing!

Best time to buy Planetary is now, the omnibus was just released....I'm reading it for the first time, currently on chapter 3.

I bought the old XMen graphic novel 'God loves, Man Kills' at my LCS last week... Been wanting a copy of that for many years, and never seem to spot one in decent shape when I have money for it. Looking forward to reading it soon for the first time. I'm a big fan of Brent Anderson's art (moreso for Strikeforce: Morituri than Astro City, though).

Awesome. I've been especially curious about it since they based the second XMen movie on it, that one is still my favourite X-movie.ShadowTuga wrote:It is one of the best X-stories, of all time. The comic shop owner was at the counter when I bought it - it was kinda funny when he spoke up and said 'Ah - gonna read about the dirty muties, eh? Everyone's always going on about all the dirty muties in that book.'

planetary is GREAT.
I might have to do a Desert Island Comic Runs version 2.0 on a future OTV. Planetary might have to be in there.
It is a CRIME that there is only 27 issues, a CRIME.
I'm on #25........ I'm reading it sloooooow. I know #27 is around the corner.

Wasteland, yes!lorddunlow wrote:Anybody read Wasteland? I'm digging Umbral (by the same creative team) and they just recently announced they're going to finish the story out to #60 soon, so I thought I might dive in.
I literally know nothing about it, though, other than the creative team.
I've begun reading this recently, and I like it a lot.
It's like a cross between Mad Max and a Western. Good stuff.

I just finished reading the 1st volume of YOKKO, a 16 issue french comic (BD, to be exact
) about a ronin demon-hunter and his companions. The art is truly phenomenal, very influenced by Stan Sakai imho, but a little more heavy on the details. Anyone who enjoys Samurai stories should check this out.

Sex Criminals 1 & 2. Wow. Much better than I expected. This is one of those books that is worth it as single issues for the letter column alone.

I checked out Sex Criminals 1 and 2 after hearing the reviews, and I just couldn't understand the love its getting.
The concept is creative and fun, but other than that, there just wan't much interest there.
I just started Saga from the beginning, and that already hooked me.
To each his own, I guess.

I would to say that I am not a Matt Fraction fan, but I think that Sex Criminals is top notch. What I have read thus far has been really good story telling. 4.5/5 for me.400yrs wrote:Sex Criminals 1 & 2. Wow. Much better than I expected. I am afraid that the story will peter out (pun intended), because I can't see how it is going to hold up with the "three people chasing them."

True, but I thought the same thing about the walking dead and chew, so I've kind of have come to accept that sometimes these writers have a long range plan in mind which I just can't visualize.caxiotis wrote:I would to say that I am not a Matt Fraction fan, but I think that Sex Criminals is top notch. I really like Hawkeye. Give the first couple issues a try. If you don't like the feel and the tone, then you just won't like it. If you do, you'll want to keep reading more.caxiotis wrote:I haven't tried Hawkeye, but I think I will give it a try based on how much I like sex criminals.
I gave Black Science a try because of what I read on the boards here. That's a pretty cool book too.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
The Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye #15 The Crew of The Lost Light vs. Overlord. Overlord squashes Pipes (literally) and punches a hole in Ultra Magnus (ouch) and beats the snot out of the Autobots. Chromedome does some crazy mind trick and a group of Autobots drag Overlord back into his cell (where time is slowed down) his friend Rewind tries to help shut the door and gets stuck in the cell and Chromedome is forced to eject the cell and blow it up killing both Rewind and Overlord (for now). Series writer James Roberts can't seem to write a fight worth a damn (or at the very least doesn't want to write a fight worth a damn), but he does do a great job showing the pain of fight and makes the deaths at least seem painful this is especially true with Pipes. I feel after all the building up he did with Overlord in both this series and in The Last Stand of The Wreckers that Overlord wouldn't have been beated by Chromedome's weird mind trick and blowing him up in a prison cell seems a little anti-climatic to me. The art is good, but with so many characters in this issue it is easy to lose track of where everyone is and what's happening and happened to them.

If you dig Hawkeye as well i'd recommend Superior Foes of Spider-Man. It's not Matt Fraction writing it but Nick Spencer is writing this with a very similar tone. And it's also a really great fun read and Steve Lieber's art is also top notch.

Read Thor God of Thunder #19 last night. I freaking love this book so much. I've never been a Thor at all until I discovered this series. To be honest i've always found Thor to be kinda lame. #19 is the start of a new arc and Esad Ribic is back drawing this whole storyline. It's a perfect jumping point you really don't need to have read any of the previous issues to enjoy it. I'm super pumped for the next issue...Old Galactus is coming!
