The first several issues are enjoyable, but it really gets good with issues 7 and 8.Savant wrote: I love getting hardcovers, so that's the likely way I'll try Invincible out.
A quick question on that title. Does the book start off great, or does it get better as the series go on, or does it vary?
Totally unexpected stuff.
And the quality remains high throughout the series.
This book is one of my favorites.
Favorite books: Black Hammer, Bloodshot, Divinity, Justice League Dark, Marvel Two-In-One, Thor.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just read Avengers #19. Holy frikkin crap! Decompression my *SQUEE*! This is what comics books need to be like. Hickman just blows everyone out of the water. Something big is going on in the Marvel universe. This issue took me 30 minutes to read. So great.
Also read Manhattan Projects #14. Great as usual, but it was a bridging issue, obviously, so it was a little slow. I find myself having to read about a lot of history when I read this book - which I love.
What a great week for comics. If there had been an issue of Revival it would have been perfect.

Completely agreed on Avengers #19. Amazing issue, and I'm of the mind that, should Infinity continue at this high level of quality, it'll be the best Marvel "event" I've ever read.
What did you think of the previous issue, Avengers #18? I thought that one was crap, personally, which is a stark contrast to issue #19.
As for Manhattan Projects #14, it was my least favorite MP issue so far. It had some interesting developments, of course (Such as Oppenheimer's schemes coming to fruition), but it didn't have that certain je ne sais quoi I usually get from this book.

Finally got around to reading Morrison's New X-Men run, I'm currently about 2/3 of the way through and absolutely loving it. Morrison is constantly bringing in new and old characters making them interesting and moving on at a thunderous pace, great stuff and definitely the best X-Men I've read.

Animal Man Annual 2. LeMire wrote this as a very touching side story about AM's loss if his son. No easy task for a hero book. There is action, anguish and character development. As a parent of young boys, I found it quite moving. I give it an A–.

Be forewarned, it gets crappy toward the end.ian_house wrote:Finally got around to reading Morrison's New X-Men run, I'm currently about 2/3 of the way through and absolutely loving it. Re: What comics are you reading now?
Currently reading Runaways by Brian K Vaughan, and art by Adrian Alphona.
Volume 1 was incredible. Volume 2 started out strong, and sort of went a little south towards the end of Vaughan's run. Joss Whedon picked it up around issue 24, but there was a cliffhanger left by Vaughan, that totally went untouched when Whedon started his run. Pretty much Iron Man comes in the last page, and you think that there's going to be a whole huge Iron Man/ Avengers tie in, and then NOTHING!
Whedon's stuff is cool, but with the time travel thing, it kind of negates the fact thata guy like Captain America is supposed to be the first superhero known to man. Or even Namor, and the Human Torch.

recent reads:
Revival - one of my fav books right now. very well written thriller/mystery/horror story and Mike Norton's art is awesome. Jenny Frison's covers are sweet too i'd love to see her do a Valiant cover.
Morning Glories - I dig the "Lost" vibe of this book.
Daredevil - lives up to the hype i'm loving it. I want to see a lot more of Ikari.
also been re-reading some early to mid 80's Spider-Man. re-read Secret Wars as well.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
First of all, I really need to start avoiding this thread. I do not need anymore books to read (Morning Glories always interested me, but your Lost comment almost has me pulling the trigger) - I'm not made of money and infinite time!MarkRoseHFX wrote:recent reads:

Secondly, I couldn't agree more with Revival. If there is a new issue, I cannot wait past Wednesday night to read it. That's not true for any other title, including VEI. The mystery component is so well done, and the art is so super stylized with the perfect fit to the story. I also agree that Frison should do some VEI work!

East of west vol 1. Good stuff. I like four horsemen stories and this may be the first story where Hickman has written a character that I can get attached to / care about. I like that it's an end-of-the-world / sci-fi / western / love story. Kind of cool. Not something I'd read in singles, but I'll be getting the next trade.

Each issue elevates this series higher and higher. I've enjoyed it as monthlies. Does the trade contain #5? That has been the best issue so far. Xiaolian became my favorite character after this issue.400yrs wrote:East of west vol 1. Good stuff. Yes, it does include #5. That was the issue that sealed it for me and wrapped up the first arc nicely. Death is probably my favorite.lorddunlow wrote:Each issue elevates this series higher and higher. I've enjoyed it as monthlies. Does the trade contain #5? That has been the best issue so far. It's an fun mini series from NOW Comics. I discovered it recently from Tom Richmond blog (Mad Magazine). It's parodies all the sci fi movies with the whole Bundy family....Terminator, Back To the Future, Aliens and Star Wars.lorddunlow wrote:Just joking, as I can't believe there is avikingspawn wrote:Made up how?lorddunlow wrote:Are we supposed to guess which ones you just made up?!vikingspawn wrote:The Star Wars #1

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Not surprisingly, Married with Children 2099 3 is the hardest issue of the run to get. I seem to remember hearing that it was originally going to be a 4 issue mini and the fourth issue was folded into the third issue as a double issue. I could be remembering something else entirely, however.vikingspawn wrote:It's an fun mini series from NOW Comics. I discovered it recently from Tom Richmond blog (Mad Magazine). That might be "Quantum Quartet." It had 2 issues released at first and then one double sized issue a year later:Chiclo wrote:Not surprisingly, Married with Children 2099 3 is the hardest issue of the run to get. Re: What comics are you reading now?
Yeah it did dissapoint somewhat. I had already been spoilered about Xorn being Magneto and it just really didn't work for me. The biggest reason I didn't really get it was that there were already a bunch of compotent anti-human mutants at the school lead by Quire, but instead Magento collected together all of the 'speacial needs' kids to try and take over... why?! Also Magneto being Xorn didn't really make any sense just due to the power sets.Savant wrote:Be forewarned, it gets crappy toward the end.ian_house wrote:Finally got around to reading Morrison's New X-Men run, I'm currently about 2/3 of the way through and absolutely loving it. It's a shame as I really enjoyed the series up to that point.
