Also read Manhattan Projects #13. I thought it was starting to slip a little, but this issue was awesome. Still #1 on my pull list.
Read Avengers #17 and now I'm really excited to see what Infinity brings. I actually think Marvel may be making some big changes with this event (unlike other events). I really have a feeling the New Universe characters are going to supplant the Ultimates universe. At least that's my prediction. I really think they may be completely relaunching that line.
I wouldn't be surprised if Infinity is used to create a "new" Marvel Universe with some of the New Universe and UM Uinverse along with Angela and Marvelman characters/concepts mixed in (like the New 52).

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Well, I'm not sure about the Marvelman/Miracleman, but I think the NU/Ultimates may be forming a new New Universe. All the rumors are that the Ultimates universe is ending - I can't see them just getting rid of some of the popular characters (like Miles Morales), and I don't know why they would introduce New Universe characters without giving them a universe to live in, so I think there will be a universe that is mostly New Universe with the popular Ultimates characters in it. Just my prediction. I don't really know what they'll be doing with Angela (it was confirmed that they bought her outright from Gaiman, so she's a Marvel property now), but she sucks so far in her current incarnation, so I don't really care what they do with her.grendeljd wrote:Yikes.lorddunlow wrote:I definitely think this is what Marvel is doing.Cyberstrike wrote:

I just did some cursory research and it looks to still be in limbo. Marvel did buy the rights to the original Marvelman, but the critically acclaimed version that has Moore and Gaiman all up in it is still being fought about amongst Todd McFarlane, Gaiman, and Marvel. Ugh. This is why I love the open-source community of XDA. They just share their code freely with the only request being credit where credit is due. I wish other creative endeavors were worked out like this. Only the readers suffer from this crap.grendeljd wrote:I was under the impression it was sorted out & Marvel had the rights, but they really haven't done anything with it since I'd heard that, which was some time agolorddunlow wrote:Well, I'm not sure about the Marvelman/Miracleman, but I think the NU/Ultimates may be forming a new New Universe. Re: What comics are you reading now?
Recently checked out and enjoyed a few issues or trades of:
Bedlam
Great Pacific
Thief of Thieves
Conan
Mind MGMT
Umbrella Academy
Cobra I/II - really enjoyed these, they were recommended several times, and certainly delivered.
GI Joe and Origins - Still not finished with Origins, will read before I start Cobra Civil War
TMNT - just part way through first trade, and not bad at all!
I really didn't think I would enjoy these IDW titles so much, but I am impressed so I will have to check out some of the transformers stuff too.
Not caught up on any Marvel/DC really, haven't borrowed or bought any since my last post in this thread. Still haven't tried to find any Peter Panzerfaust, but soon I think.

I read the first couple of trades that Busiek did and thought they were great. I think in the back of the first trade there was a great dialogue between Howard and another writer (the name escapes me) about what Conan meant.nscc wrote:Recently checked out and enjoyed a few issues or trades of:

Re: What comics are you reading now?
That's what I gathered. Marvel owns the rights to the crappy old stuff outright, but the famous stuff that's actually good is tied up in a rights battle. The problem with it is that it seems each person claiming rights, really does have a legitimate claim, even McFarlane. They need to just reach an agreement and start reprinting so they can all make money off of it, and we can buy it again.ian_house wrote:I thought it was only the ability to reprint the famous stuff. Infinity #1. Looks good, the pieces are set, and it seems promising. To be fair, AoU started off damned promising too.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

Re: What comics are you reading now?
This has been the best Wednesday ever! Archer and Armstrong, Harbinger, East of West, and Infinity. They were all sooo awesome!
Infinity - grendeljd, those were Spaceknights you saw. They play a larger role in Infinity. Looks like some bad *SQUEE* is going to go down! Such a meaty comic. I love Hickman!!
East of West #5 - Xiaolian is bad-*SQUEE*! What a cool character. She has Death by the balls. I'm really enjoying this book. Again, Hickman is the bomb!
Such a great week for my pull list.
I think I'll be enjoying my pull list quite a bit for the next few months at least.
The only thing that could have made this Wednesday better would have been Revival releasing today!

Just caught up on All New X-Men... and then read all of Uncanny X-Men from issue 1 until today. Personally I'm loving these two titles, not sure why as I've never been an X fan and always disliked Cyclops... but seeing him pull himself together and try to start a new school has been really good reading, same goes for All New with the whole back to the future angle not working out really as Beast had hoped.

The sad truth is: Marvel NEEDS to do something like The New 52. The abuse of these stupid and pointless crossover events have made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to understand what is going on also with guys like Bendis, Slott, Hickman, and Fraction simply trying to top each other on "the next BIG CHANGE to the Marvel Universe" makes each series, line, and characters and events completly poinltless.
Marvel needs a complete and total reboot.

Just finished Torso, co-written and fully illustrated by Brian Michael Bendis. Bendis at the top of his game, before Marvel hired him. Possibly the best comic book story I've ever read. After finishing it, I gave it to my brother, who rarely reads comics. I just got a text from him saying he started reading Torso, and hates to put it down.
I give Torso five Starbrands.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I Just read Harbinger #15 and Archer and Armstrong #12 this evening before leaving my home for work. I enjoyed both issues, the former a bit more than the latter. I've said so in a previous post that most of Harbinger #15 had a lot of much needed levity following all the death and destruction caused by the advent of Harbinger War.
Archer and Armstrong #12 was another strong issue with plenty of humor, surprises, and insightful mentions of the other characters in the relaunched Valiant Universe. X-O Manowar is still my favorite title, with Bloodshot coming in at a close 2nd place and Shadowman in 3rd place as my favorite Valiant titles. I'm definitely looking forward to the relaunch of Unity, Eternal Warrior, and Ninjak.
Apart from the Valiant titles, I also got to read Batman #23 and Justice League of America #7, both of which confused the living daylights out of me. Perhaps I need to wait until the story arcs for both books are finished, reread them in order, and THEN I'll understand them.
Don't get me wrong, they're both good books, I just have a harder time understanding them when the story arc stretches out for so many issues. There might be things I've forgotten or parts I've missed because it's been so long since the previous issue. Other than that, I'm loving both books, but certainly not more than I'm loving what Valiant Entertainment is putting out every month.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I know I already expressed my current Hickman and inexplicable Marvel fanboyism concerning Infinity, but I also wanted to see if anyone read the little digital only Silver Surfer comic that tied into Infinity. For me, it was quite possibly the best done digital comic I've seen. You couldn't accomplish the feeling and motion that was expressed in any other medium - not even print comics. Truly unique. I've seen a few Web comics that did something similar, but nothing this well executed. It was really cool, and I hope this technique/format catches on.

All of the new Valiant. Well, yeah
Also added Red Sonja to my pull, both issues really solid so far. And, just for giggles (actually solid entertainment), some Judge Dredd (old school hardcover collection).
Avoiding the Marvel and DC completely and better off for it.

I picked DC up from the new 52 until last month. I started out with all 52 for 6 months, then slowly weened myself off entirely. Mostly, it was unremarkable.Uncle Yusuf wrote:Paradigm38 wrote:Avoiding the Marvel and DC completely and better off for it.

There were some good series, like batman, aquaman and animal man, but most of it was pretty unfulfilling.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
This is my current pull-list:
Marvel (all 3 are Hickman books):
Avengers
New Avengers
Infinity
Hickman's runs on Avengers & New Avengers haven't been perfect (Avengers #11 was the worst Hickman-penned comic I've ever read, it was as if Bendis ghost-wrote for him).......But, for the most part, they've been pretty good. I haven't read the first issue of Infinity yet, but I'm looking forward to it as it seems to be one of those rare Big Two "events" that actually might deliver.
DC:
Earth 2.....Next issue being the last, as it's when Robinson jumps ship
Suicide Squad ......Started reading with the Kot/Zircher creative team onboard. One of the issues sucked, but it seems like the title had potential. Then Didio decided to screw Kot and bring in a new writer starting with issue 24, so issue 23 is the last one I'm getting.
I also get the HC/tpb collections of Justice League, Batman, and Aquaman for my son.

Side-Kick
I'll be trying out Zero and Velvet when those two titles are eventually released.
Valiant:
Archer & Armstrong
Bloodshot & HARD Corps ---Will give this title a 2-issue chance
Eternal Warrior
Harbinger
X-O Manowar
X-O I liked with the first 8 issues, but I've honestly been bored with the last 7 or 8. Just feels kind of empty to me. I'll continue buying the title and pass the issues over to my son as he seems to like X-O more than I do.
Shadowman, I thought the first four issues were average (I liked the art, but the writing wasn't to my liking)........Issues 5 & 0 were fantastic, then 6 I didn't care for at all and just dropped the the title. I would skim through a few of the later issues at the LCS, didn't like what I saw, and didn't bother buying them.
I recently acquired back-issues of Earth 2, and the majority of it's surprisingly not bad.......I liked earlier issues of Morrison's Batman Inc, but didn't care for the past 6 issues or so. I liked about half of The Shade. Of course, both Batman Inc & The Shade are two titles which stem from previous continuity and were somewhat shoe-horned into the New 52.

X-O Manowar
Archer & Armstrong is almost always my favorite Valiant title month in/out......Harbinger started out alright, had a couple issues i didn't care for, then got a little better again shortly before Harbinger Wars, then both the main Harbinger title and the Harbinger Wars limited series were excellent.Uncle Yusuf wrote:I Just read Harbinger #15 and Archer and Armstrong #12 this evening before leaving my home for work.

Agreed (Although I didn't even like Batman nor Animal Man)......Most of the New 52 has been disappointing. Aquaman's OK, but not great. Justice League has gotten far better, the past few issues (Started out below average, IMO), but still not as good as it should be.Carson wrote:I picked DC up from the new 52 until last month. I started out with all 52 for 6 months, then slowly weened myself off entirely. Mostly, it was unremarkable.Uncle Yusuf wrote:Paradigm38 wrote:Avoiding the Marvel and DC completely and better off for it.
Really? Just out of curiosity, what are your particular reasons? I'm just asking. I hope you don't mind.
There were some good series, like batman, aquaman and animal man, but most of it was pretty unfulfilling.
