Yeah, Rufus. I remember someone a couple weeks back saying that they had pulled a Bloodshot 0 Platty and several other print error Bloodshot 0s out of a quarter bin in Florida. Couldn't tell you who it was, but I did read it and they had a huge scan image on the page.

I just traded in some old Role-Playing books for credit at my fave local used bookstore and while going over the stacks once more to make sure I hadn't missed anything, I found a treasure trove...3 new boxes that were each at least half full of VALIANT titles. These included bags of 10 Bloodshot #1's for a dollar each, an XO 6, and others. Using the new credit, I grabbed the XO, hid the Bloodshots and picked up A&A 5 as well as Shadowman 21-23, Solar 11, and another Harbinger 7. There were others, but I am on a quest. Once I finish my intial set of having all the regular issues, I'll concentrate on doubles and variants. By the looks of things, I may be able to raid my way to multiple sets fairly cheap. Does anyone else here hide books at fave haunts so they can come back later and grab them? I do it all the time, myself. What is the best thing you've ever hidden?

Nope. Buy it or leave it for someone else to find. It *SQUEE* me off when people do that, particularly with CDs.

Oh man, that brings back memories. We used to do that when we were kids sometimes. I probably wouldn't do it now, its a bit immature, but I wouldn't hold it against some kid for doing it

I am with 400 yrs here - buy or don't buy it. Stopping others doing so when you have decided against doing so immediately, is morally wrong in my book.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

I really shouldn't have said I do it all the time. I honestly don't. When I have done it, it has almost exclusively been on a very temporary basis, like maybe long enough to go get the cash to buy it,, but only if the person at the store won't hold it for me, ie, being a jerk. I did a lot when I was younger, but I shouldn't say I hid it. I simply put the pile-about 20 books-towards the back of a longbox that was on the shelf at the used store. That way, I know where it is, but I have to take chances on others getting it. Probably the only time I really have hidden anything in a store was when I was 10 and there was a magazine I really wanted, so I put it behind some large books and came back to pick it up a week later. My perspective is a little skewed as few stores in my area will hold anything for any amount of time, even just a few minutes. If I ran a used store, I would certainly hold things overnight, as I understand how first come, first serve those types of places have to be to survive, yet I think building a certain amount of trust and appreciation between customer and owner is also important, particularly as it pertains to repeat business.

I used to hide magazines.

Porno magazines.

In my room.

When I was a kid.

...

Now I just leave them laying around.

I still hide mine, for nostalgias sake. Nothing like having to search around and figure out where they are. It is like finding a buried treasure of buried treasure.

Well, xodiac, I may be your nemisis. Often when I am at the video store or comic shop. I loof in the back of stacks just to see what is back there. If my local video rental place is out of a dvd I can usually find it behind some crappy movie near it. Same goes for comics, I can usually find an issue I want stuffed behind a bunch of books that aren't moving or mixed into a bunch of BS in a longbox. I have a nack for this sort of thing, must really tick off the people that waste their time and gas to come back and find their hiding spot raided. I sometimes even buy the stuff out of shear spite.

I agee, it's always funny til it happens to you. Truth of life. As I said, I've done it a select few times, always coming back very soon with the money, and only when the store won't actually hold the merchandise. Nobody "hides" something to spite others, but because of thier own interest, just as your interest is in taking it because it is there. If I found out something I had put in a spot was gone, I wouldn't honestly care too much, because it can always be found again. More than anything, I love the hunt, the tracking down of merchandise. I enjoy reading/watching/ect, what I have bought, put on hold, or, as has happened maybe 5 times since I was 12, "hidden", only slightly more than the actual hunt. Patience is a virtue, no?

Buying comics out of Spite...I have seen the future...we can all save the industry if we do massive SPITE purchasing. We can find everyones hidden stash, and then buy them, driving up the prices on the backs of little childrens broken dreams(they never ought to have hidden it where we could find it)and thus, by looking for these stashes, people would find books they weren't looking for, get interested in back issues, raise the price and restart the speculator market. It is GENIIUS(twirls imaginary Snidely-whiplash 'stache and laughs) "We've beaten you, Dr. Fatasntic hider!" (ok, shoot me now. I am officialy a nerd :D )

:hm:

Originally it was just my way to put a little hiccup in someone's day. But now you have shown me the light, xodacia. I can start a revolution, possibly become the evil despot that the Villains quiz said I would be. In my own way I can become Doom.

The best part of this new specualtor market will be that there will be no rhyme or reason to it. Anything that a person finds out of place on the rack will be bought. Wizard won't be able to keep track of what is selling or why. They will contract out for a complex algorithm so that they can predict what it is that is happening, and it will tell them nothing. They will be confused and will throw random crap in the hot back issues section. Yes, I too have seen the future xodacia, and their will be chaos.

I need some kind of lightening sound effect to go off once a person is done reading this.

Just playing with you xodacia, I usually just put the book back or move it behind something else. Sometimes I will buy it, but usually I am just trying to frustrate whoever hid it.

Well, Thrill, if yoo do manage to become a supervillain, please pick a better costume than that green-goblin/Iron Man wannabe thing that DOOM wears. It is SO 60's. I hadn't considered the Wizard aspect, but that might be a fun side-benefit. They are so much about the HOT commodity. They helped build up the buzz on VALIANT and then let them twist in the wind, the rotters. Btw, I just picked up an issue of Wizard for 25 cents, featuring a look at The Chaos Effect. I should go read it.
