So what??? every store owner is a bum? The guy asked him not to go thru those boxes, and he persisted. I would have done the same thing. What part of no don't you understand? It may have been pleasant with the first no, but he persisted. woulda *SQUEE* me off too.
I don't know, maybe I'm an idiot, but I would think if you had books you didn't want the customers going through you would keep them in the back room or elsewhere. Anything on the sales floor accessible to customers should be available to look through. Seems like common sense to me. :?

:hm:

lets see...

It's a comic shop, supposedly it is there to sell comics.

Someone offered overstreet on comics he wanted and offered to sort through a bunch of long boxes to find them...

the owner has to do nothing and will get money in his pocket....

the thing about retail is that you're entire reason to exist is to serve your customers needs.

while no one's denying that the store owner was well within his right to "refuse service to anyone" what we are saying is that it's not exactly "customer service 101".

i've had plenty of folks who were a pain in the *SQUEE* to deal with (not necessarily saying you were jedi...or were you? :D ) but i was polite and helpful to them because frankly i wanted their *SQUEE* money.

comic store owners (or any retail business really) should never alienate their customers. if you think this is an acceptable practice, then that's cool...but i won't be shopping anywhere that i'm not treated with respect or courtesy.

i've also had store owners do the same thing to me...i REALLY didn't like it, especially considering guys like me and jedi are the sons of a b!tches who're paying their rent every month.

it's fairly simple...comic stores have comic boxes everywhere.

us "pesky" customers are there to look through those boxes and spend money.

so...if the box isn't ready for a customer to browse through then put it away.

it's not rocket science...it's just simply good customer service.

Wow..that was an adult response! How old are you?

I suppose next you are going to pick up your long box, storm home and tell on me?

I disagreed with you, that's all. Can't we be adults and agree to disagree?

You're right...

What was I thinking! Going into a COMIC BOOK STORE and wanting to buy COMICS!

You're right....

I'm going to go back to that store and say I'm sorry for thinking that I could BUY comics at a COMIC BOOK STORE!!!

You're right...

What was I thinking???? Next thing you know I'll try to buy a hamburger at Burger King.

You're right.

Ummmm..... You are there to sell comics to pay the rent. Someone is willing to come in and do your job and pay Overstreet (Over-priced-street) prices on something and YOU get *SQUEE* off?

If a comic shop owner got *SQUEE* off at me for asking an ENTIRELY reasonable question twice, I would tell his plumber-butt crack showing, WOW playing, pizza grease smelling a$$ to lick my nuts and would then proceed to show him the bling in my wallet (which will NEVER be spent in his store) and then I would probably knock a few of those lame dragon statues to the ground as I exit laughing as the biggun tries to catch me while pulling his pants up from around his ankles (and he could've bought a new belt with the money I would've spent) and stumbling over all the flubber that he has amassed as a connoisseur of comics.

Ok, you guys win. I thought this was going to be a cool place to have some adult conversation about these cool books we collect but I see that will never happen. Don't worry, I'll leave. it's all yours.

i grabbed a guy and pulled almost out from behind the counter because he smarted off to one of my brothers...lol

andrew had about $300 bucks and wanted to spend it on comics so i took him with me to one of the then newer stores in town.

andrew asked to see a book behind the counter and was told "no, i'm not wasting time showing you a book you can't afford in the first place".

as it turned out, that was a GRAVE error in judgement.

and i told the salesman so...forcefully.

A little argument is no reason to run off crying, dude. Sure, we have "adult conversations about these cool books we collect." But this topic was not about that. It was about a prick LCS owner. It's a subject that *SQUEE* a lot of people off because most of us have dealt with them.

In fact, the other day, I went into a shop a ways away from me. The owner was on the phone with his mom being a complete dick to her. I walked out. If the low-life treats his mom that way (in front of a customer who is a complete stranger, no less), how is the *SQUEE*-bag going to treat me any better?

This is exactly why I don't post more often. This message board really does seem to be controlled by a few individuals, if you digress with their opinion then they attack all at once like a bunch of punks. Sad that the amount of members this board has that very few actually post on a frequent basis.

PS - I agree, NO means NO. Pretty simple but I guess when some people don't get what they want they feel justified in whining & complaining.

I wasn't running off crying. But if you can't post an opinion without being jumped on and called childish names, why bother? This seems like it could be a great board, if you are allowed to speak. I get the whole customer service thing. I get wanting to spend your money. Hell, I can spend with the best of em. Jedimarley, If I somehow insulted you, I'm sorry. It was not intended. I was just posting an opinion. I'll choose my words and comments wisely next time.

this is all about personality types...that's all it is.

some people are fine with being dictated to by someone who essentially is working for them...that's cool if they're ok with it.

the rest of us don't enjoy being treated like 5 year old with dirty fingers.

if the owner wants to give preferential treatment to his regular customers...that's well within his right to do so. however, jedi offered to let him examine any books he MIGHT'VE taken in order to protect his regulars. instead the owner choose to be authoritian about it.

if the owner wants to see if there are any books he wants personally...that's also well within his right to do. again, jedi offered to give him full reign over what if ANYTHING he might pull from the boxes. again, the owner was less then flexible.

yes, the owner is absolutely correct in making the determination he did regarding those books.

but jedi is also correct for examining the tone and temperment of the owner in question and deciding on whether to tell him to *SQUEE* off or not.

but it all comes down to how the owner treats his customer, and whether or not the customer decides to be dictated to by the store owner.

personally, i don't like it one bit.

maybe thats a character flaw or control issues on my part...but i'm the guy with the money and that means he's working for me and not the other way around.

if i feel like i'm not being treated well somewhere then i stop going and stop giving them my money.

as a matter of fact, if i so much as see one thing i don't like about the store, the employees, or the owner himself then i walk...period.

the owner might be a great guy, go to church every sunday, donate books to children's hospitals, and fix dinner every night for the local old folks home...but none of that has anything to do with how he treats his customer base.

and yes, jedi went off on chainnball...perhaps a bit too harshly. but who here hasn't been told to "*SQUEE* themselves" by jedi? lol...it's like a badge of honor around here.

since none of us were with jedi that day, we can't possibly know exactly the way things went down with the owner in question or what manner he was treated.

i'd suspect based off his reaction that the owner copped an attitude with him, which regardless of your opinions is an absolutely unnacceptable thing for anyone working in retail to do.

i've actually left dealers tables at cons, found what i wanted elsewhere and then gone back and told them "see this? if you'd treated me better then you'd have my money instead of this other guy. have fun hauling those books back to alabama or wherever the hell it is you're from junior."

that's my right as a consumer...

If you read my first post you would see that I was the one to bend over backwards for this guy.....

It should be the other way around.

But you're right. It's his right to say "No". His right not to sell to me.

As for me telling you to *SQUEE* your self..it was all in fun. That's how I post sometimes. Sorry.
