Regarding Sean's view on Wolverine Vol. 01.

I read that story when it was first published here (circa 1987), and TO THIS DAY I remember seeing that number one cover for the very first time. Like I remember the exact place when I saw it and how mindblown I was by how Wolverine looked without the mask.
Then the reading itself: Wolverine. Ninjas. Samurai. As a 10 yo this was heaven. IT IS THE WOLVERINE SERIES TO READ AND OWN. Everything else pales in comparison, except Weapon X by BWS.
Claremont and Miller just nailed what is so cool about the character in 4 issues, and the UXM ongoing was directly tied to it, telling some of best X-Men stories ever written. Even New Mutants was kinda cool- the real New Mutants NOT the Liefeld crap.
After this mini , the character REALLY took off on its own, it gain its ongoing later, 90s cartoons and "now" Hugh Jackman stardom. Like Iron Man, kids these days have no idea how Wolverine was basically unknown to non comic readers.

Chiclo, got a question for you, man: out of those 140 comics, how many do you actually really enjoy, as in, can't wait for another issue?

I trust your quality judging merits (you're a big V-ditti snd Dysart fan, right? :D), I just can't imagine that there so many good comics out there, I probably never even heard of it.
So I'm assuming, a lot of it is indie stuff, practically unknown? :?

Thanks, Jonesy! :high-five:
And it's genuine curiosity: is it a situation where a LOOOOOOOOT of good stuff is under my radar or.... is just that Chiclo buys half of the Avengers books and some Valiant :P

140 is a bit of an exaggeration. I don't think my monthly pulls ever got over 120, many months it stayed around 100. I have trimmed my pull list considerably and there has been some attrition within the books I followed and now my monthly orders are around 60 to 70 books.

I am ordering comics for two active comic readers. Were I ordering only for myself, I would probably order only about 45 or 50. My wife orders quite a few books that don't interest me. I read them anyway, just out of principle. Taking a look at my last DCBS order, just under half is Marvel and DC books. I used to read a LOT of obscure, indy books. I also used to read pretty much anything Marvel put an X on. Marvel NOW! was a pretty good jumping off point for a lot of that. I read the two Hickman Avengers books and I started picking up the one with Kang and Doom 2099 in it (Secret Avengers?). I went through an Image phase were I ordered about two-thirds of their new #1s and stuck with whatever struck me. I went through a Dynamite phase where I would read whatever new dreck they churned out. I guess now I am in a Valiant phase.

If I were to make a recommendation about some obscure comic, I would recommend some of the Steve Ditko self-published stuff. This is available most months through DCBS under the "Specials" tab. Most of these comics are $2 to $3 but a few larger volumes are more. I don't know that I am ever going to finish Avenging World - that is a BEEFY read.

I've always been curious to check out that Ditko stuff, my LCS actually orders some of those from time to time. I've skimmed through them and they look pretty crazy and interesting. and oh yes they are quite wordy. I imagine it takes quite a bit of time to get through a whole issue.

What are some of your fav Marvel and DC books at the moment C-lo?

 indeed, even if it's 120/100 books per month. That's a lot of stuff to take in. :o
